Description

(No Model.) v
- J. J. BRADNER.
GROOERS $00012 No. 255,923. Patented Apr. 4,1882.
U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN J. BRADN ER, OF FINDLAY,'OHIO.
GRIOCERS 'scooP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 255,923, dated April 4, 1882.
Application filed February 28, 1882. (No model) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN J. BRADNER, of Findlay, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grocers Scoops, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in
which- Figure l is a perspective view of a scoop with my improvements attached. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The object of my invention is to furnish a scoop devoid of any metallic surface and so constructed as to possess sufficient strength to stand any legitimate use, while it is light and easily handled; and it consists in making the scoop entirely of wood and securing the blade to the scoop-head in the manner described and claimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
Scoops as now used have a metallic surface, which is liable to be affected by many articles and become corroded and dangerous to health; and to overcome this difficultyis one object of my invention.
In the drawings, Areprescnts a scoop-blade formed of wood, with a regular curve, and at its rear edge is provided with a tenon, a, against which the outer edge of the scoop-head rests. The scoop-head B is recessed at b, as shown in Fig. 2, and into this recess fits the rear edge, e, of the blade. The blade and scoop-head then are glued or otherwise securely fastened together, forming a strong, light scoop, which is easily kept clean and not liable to be injuriously affected by grocers goods. It is evident from this construction of the two parts that I not only secure a large hearing-surface between the parts, but that each part tends to secure and hold the other firmly in position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- In a. wooden scoop, the blade A, provided with the tenon a and rear edge, e, in combination with the head B, provided with therecess b, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
