1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I ALBERT TROLLOPE, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
CENTER FOR COOKlNG-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,825, dated April 4, 1882.
Application filed January 9, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT TROLLOPE, of Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Centers for (looking-Stoves; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification.
Myinventiou consists in the combinations of devices and appliances hereinafter specified, and more particularlypointed outin the claims.
Figure I is a plan view of a stove-center con structed according to my invention with its several parts separated. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the middle portion detached. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of one of the side pieces. Fig. 4 is a section on line 00 w of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a section on line y y, Fig.1, but with the parts engaged.
Myinvention consists in the novel construction of a three-piece stove-center, the parts of which are detachably connected bypeculiarly formed and arranged interlocking devices, as
will be hereinafter particularly described.
In carrying out my invention, A represents the middle portion of the T-center, in which a depressed flange is provided in the casting from points a to b and from b to 0, also from d to e and from 6 tof, similar to that provided for holding the lids, as seen. In Fig.2 I show the flange cut away at 1 and 2, and a small shoulder or ridge, 1, is cast upon the under side of the plate to engage with a corresponding lip from the end of the adjoining part. A
socket is also cast in the piece at 3, to receive the end of a standard fastened to the ovenplate below in the usual manner.
B B represent the radiating arms, provided with concave lips 4, running out from the bottom in such a manner that when adjusted to the middle portion they will engage the shoulders l and 2 and hold the arms from dropping when the middle portion is lifted by a stovehandle inserted in the handle-socket shown at 5. In B and B the castings at points 9, h, i, andj are made heavier topreseut a full flat hearing, so that they may be ground down, it necessary, to make the arms rest level in mountmg.
6 is the post rising from the oven-plate and its top entering the socket 3. w
The T-center being made of separate parts united at the middle, the lower post is made to support the several parts at this middle point.
In use, should either part become broken or warped, it can be replaced by a newpart without renewing the whole T-center.
My invention is a safeguard against breaking T-centers from the effects of heat and in mounting. It simplifies the molding, also, as snap-flasks can be used in casting these pieces separately, the casting thus becoming easier and cheaper. Moreover, it,facilitates making perfect. castings, there being less liability of flaws than when the whole is cast in a single piece.
I am aware that stove-centers have been composed heretofore ot' detachably-connected parts, and I therefore do not claim such centers, broadly.
What I claim is- 1. In a stove-center, the part A, provided with shoulders l and 2, in combination with the parts B, provided with engaging-lips 4:, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. Ina stove-center, the part A, provided with shoulders I and 2 and ridges orlugs r,in
ALBERT TROLLOPE.
