UNITED STATES ATENT FFICE.
WILLIAM P. MANNING, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK S. PRESBREY, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED SHOE SCRAPER AND BRUSH.
QPECIIE'ICAI'ION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,931, dated March 2, 1886.
Application filed March 28, 1884. Serial No.125,885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. MANNING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Combined Shoe Scraper and Brush, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a combined boot or shoe scraper and brush; and it consists in the improved construction hereinafter described and set forth, whereby a scraper and brush are combined in one article in a cheap and durable manner, so as to render them effective for service.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective View of .my improved scraper and brush. Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1 through the scraper and brush, and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan of Fig. 1.
The base of the device consists of an annular ring, ,A, preferably contracting toward the top, and a smaller disk or plate, B, formed integral with or otherwise connected to the said ring A. A circular brush, D, of any preferred construction, has its wooden base or body portion E resting on the upper edge of the ring A, which is provided integrally with perforated cars a, adapted for the passage of screws b, or other securing devices, to secure said brush rigidly to the ring A. The plate B is provided with a central perforation, through which passes the threaded bolt-extension (1 of the scraper F, a clamp-nut, e, being adapted to engage said extension (1 on the under side of the plate, so as to secure the said scraper rigidly in position. The central portion of the plate Bis preferably thickened on its under side to strengthen said plate at its point of perforation, and also to provide a projecting bearing for the nut e, to facilitate manipulating the same in attaching or de' taching the scraper.
The scraper F, as illustrated, consists of a standard, 9, connected to parallel vertical portions h, between which is located the scraperblade G.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that by the construction illustrated and set forth a scraper and brush are cheaply and durably combined in one article, and that the scraper and brush may be readily removed to permit substitution or repair, and thatthe section constituted by the ring A and platform B may be produced by casting.
The scraper G is of such form and construction that it can be readily produced by casting.
The ring A is perforated at two or more points, i, to permitit to be secured to the floor by screws or other devices.
I do not limit myself to the precise construction or shape shown or described, as the same may be subject to various modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim 1. In a combination scraper and brush, an annular base of cast metal upon which the brush rests and provided with lugs for securing the same to the base, and having aperforated platform thickened on its under side for the reception of the scraper, substantially as described.
2. The combination scraper and brush consisting of a base having an open ring-section and a brush removably secured thereon and a perforated platform having a scraper detachably secured thereto, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with the base having an annular opening and perforated platform, ofa circular brush,O, removably secured above said annular opening, and a horizontal scraper.
WM. P. MANNING.
