1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to chimneys and more particularly to a removable chimney top.
The object of this invention is to provide a cap which may be adapted to chimneys to increase the draft thereof, it is also intended that the said cap may easily be removable for cleaning purpose.
Where poor draft is enjoyed trouble is generally experienced in firing furnaces and very often results in back smoke and. gas both of which are very undesirable.
When my invention is adapted to a chimney top it will greatly increase the draft in said chimney since it will create a suction therein, therefore, the back smoke and gas smell will be reduced to a minimum and the efiiciency of the fire increased to a maximum. This is due to the fact that I provide openings on all faces of the cap and that the openings are so formed that they will cause the air to travel in an upwardly direction thus creating suction within the chimney.
The primary object of my invention is therefore to provide a chimney top so constructed that it will create a suction within the chimney to which it is applied.
A further object is that it is not necessary to alter the chimney since my top or cap can be made to suit any chimney.
A still further object is that the cap is easily removable for cleaning purpose.
Other apparent objects are that I provide a durable article of manufacture, made of any suitable material for the purpose which is strong, efiicient, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view that may appear while the description proceeds the invention consists in the novel arrangements of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings forming part of this application and in which:

Fig. 3 is a section throu h line 3-3 of Figure 4;
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the top member of the chimney cap;
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the bottom portion and Fig. 6 is a plan view of Figure 5.
Referring more in detail to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views it will be seen the invention consists of a rectangular base bottom portion l0 having angularly disposed sides II thus forming a pyramid shaped member. At each corner of the bottom portion I0 is disposed an L-shaped corner l2 having a thickness corresponding to approximately half the total height of the bottom portion. Superposed over said L-shaped corners I2 is a still further L-shaped block I3 against the perpendicular face of which will rest the top portion of the de- 2 vice. The space left between the perpendicular superposed L-shaped block l3 and the lower L-shaped block 12 should correspond to the thickness of the top portion. This arrangement will securely hold in position said top member.
As may be seen in Figure 2 of the drawing the top member M will sit on the surface of the L-shaped corner I2, thus an opening will be left between each said corner I 2 and the angularly disposed'walls l I of the bottom portion will cause any and all air current striking said wall H to travel in an upwardly direction thus creating a suction within the chimney.
The top member per se consists of a rectangular base 15 having perpendicular Walls. The remaining portion of the walls are rounded inwardly having the appearance of a cone portion. A ridge [6 is formed at the uppermost extremity of the top portion [4.
As aforementioned this top portion sits on the horizontal face of the lower L-shaped corner l2 of the bottom member II].
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the invention may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings without further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of co-operating elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A chimney top comprising a base member of frusto-pyramidal shape, each corner of said base at the bottom having an L-shape cornice formed integral therewith, said cornice being of stepped formation to provide a horizontal face and perpendicular face, and a top member of frustopyramidal shape having a perpendicular flange surrounding the bottom, said top member being disposed in superposed relation to said base member with the flange resting on the horizontal face of said cornices in abutting engagement with the perpendicular face of said cornices.
