CAP-TILE Filed April 5, 1929 INVENTOR Lid/V V. 01. ON
ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 24, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE LEON V. SOLON, OF TREN T'ON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO ROBERTSON AIRT TILE (70., OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY CAP TILE Application filed April 5, 1929. Serial No. 352,679.
The present invention relates to wall tile and has for an object to provide an improved cap tile for use as a finish between a tile facing below and the plaster above in bath room Walls and the like. The invention provides a cap tile designed to avoid the presence of a dust collecting shelf or ledge adjoining the plaster and to provide an arrangement which facilitates cleaning of the tile wall without soiling the plaster above.
The nature and objects of the invention will be better understood from a description of a particular embodiment for the purposes of which description reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tile embodying the invention, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the tile showing its relative position in use.
The tile shown as illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention is so formed that its front face comprises relatively off-set parallel surfaces 5 and 6, the upper of which is designed to lie in the plane of the face of the plaster of the finished wall and the lower of which is designed to lie in the plane of the face of the tile.
The lower portion of the tile may overlie the cement 8 of the wall construction to which the tiles 1O adhere, the upper portion being positioned as the arrangement of the wall may require. The shoulder 11 between the relatively off-set upper and lower surfaces is shown as extending at an angle to avoid a dust collecting shelf. Along the upper edge of the face of the tile a slight bead may be provided and if desired this bead may be of a darker color in order not to show dust, but this is not essential and whether it is provided or not will depend upon the decorative effect desired. This tile reduces the likelihood of soiling the wall above the tile cap when cleaning as compared withthe bullnose tile finish or the projecting molding cap now in general use, in that it eliminates the sharp curve back to the plaster face. By the alignment of the tile face with the face of the wall and by the provision of the bevelled face 11 which affords a guide for the hand of the cleaner, effe:tive cleaning of the tile is much facilitated.
The foregoing description is illustrative merely and is not intended as defining the limits of the invention.
I claim: 1
1. A cap tile of the character described the front face of which presents upper and lower substantially vertical parallel finished surfaces adapted to be exposed when in use and off-set relative to each other and an inclined substantially plane connecting surface, substantially as described.
2. A wall comprising lower tile facing and an upper plaster facing with an intermediate row of cap tiles, each cap tile having a lower surface in the plane of the face of the lower tile facing and an upper surface substantially in the plane of the face of the plaster said lower and upper surfaces being connected by an intermediate inclined substantially plane surface, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this fourteenth day of arch 1929.
' LEON V. SOLON.
