Description

PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP EB. 222222 9. A Y 4 l 938,430-, Patented 0013.26, 1 909.
UNITED STATES PATENT oFt-ioE.g
mns N. MCQUERN, or CANTON, onto, AssIcNon or CNE-Haut* To .moon n, ruiner, or CANTON, omo.
f l rAcrNG- anrcx Specification of Letters Patent. i'
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that -LJAMES N. 'Mot-,Zusam acitizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FacingBrick; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, ref-` erence being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the numerals ofreference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a view showing a number of tile placed in proper relative position. Fig.
2 isa detached perspectlve View of a single tile looking at the back of the tile. Fig. 8
is a transverse section showing two tile placed in proper relative position and secured to the sheeting also showing a portion of the third tile.
The present invention has relation to' fac-` ing brick especially designed to take the pla'ce of ordinary and common vbrick used for the purpose of veneering buildin A Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts'in all the figures of the drawing.
In .the accompanying drawing, A1 represents the ordinary sheetlng thatv is secured to"y the building in the usual manner and to which sheetlng the facing ,brick is connected as hereinafter described. The facing brick 2 is formed of any convenient size and of clay roperly burned to produce a tile suitable, or the purpose desi ed. The facing Y brick 2 is provided with t ye lapping flanges 3 and 4, which iianges -are located substantially as shown in Fig.2 and as shownthey are so located that two or more tile vcan be brought into the same 'vertical or horizontal plane.
For the l'purpose of producingwater tight joints the contact faces of the flanges 4 and 3 are provided with grooves 5 and ribs 6 and the ribs 6' seated in the grooves 5 as illustrated in the drawing. Each tile is provided with ape. tures 7, through which apertures nails 8 or their equivalents arev assed' and for the purpose of allowing the apped flanges to` abutsnugly against each other the apertures 7. are provided and are counterlin the grooves of adjacent sunk.` as illustrated in FigsQl and 3 so that the heads ofv the nails 8' Will not Aextend be- Patented oeevee, 1909. f
yond the faces ofsthe flanges; Theffianges are provided with the horizontalv and verti' cal grooves 5 and ribs 6 so that 4the vertical joints and the horizontal joints will be protected as against the entrance of moisture.
For the urpose of providing a means for giving a p easing appearance-the ends and edges of each facing brick 2` are beveled, but
I do not desire to be limited to this construe#A vtion as the only object is to give a more pleasing and artistic effect to a finished Wall.
` While it is not my desire to be'li'mitedrmthe various uses'to which the facing brick can be used yet thetile 'herein :described is more specifically 'designed to beused in the construction of the vertical "wallsof buildings. '4 v70 t will be understood that in the oonstruction of walls, tiles'of diferent lengths should be produced so that the verticalv joints in the horizontal tiers can be-broken or brought out of alinement as illustrated in Fi 1.
In `order to bring the outer ac'es of the facing brick whenv placed in the position shown in Fig. 1 all in the same plane, the thickness ofthe extended or lapped ange's :should be one-half the thickness of the body i of the tile so that the v:front faces and the rear Afaces of the tilel are all brought into the sameplanes.
Having fully described my invention what u I claim as new and'desire to secure by Let- As an improved article of manufacture-, al.
facing brick of the class described, consisting of a bod portion,l side and end voverlap ing groovesv
