Description

THOMAS E. MOWER, E FABMDALE.
' BUILDING-BLOCK.
menace.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, THOMAS F. Bowen,
, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'BEarmdale, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Building- Blocks; and Tdo by declare the following to be a full, clea and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. Y
This invention relates to building blocks, and one of the principal objects ofthe invention is to provide an interlockingventilated building block for building a wall having close fitting joints, and said joints being united'by a liquid cement to provide an air tight solid substantial wall.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illus trated in the accompanying drawing, in
" which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a number of building blocks made in accordance with this invention, and interlocked as in the building of a wall.
Fig. 2is a sectionalviewtaken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of one of the blocks, I
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the next adj acent or interlocking block, and
Fig. 5 isa top plan'view of a curved block designed for use in building silos.
Referring to-the drawing, the numeral 1 designates one of the blocks, and 2 is the interlockingblock the; twoforms of blocks being utilized for building-walls, silos, and other buildings orstructures; The block 1 comprises the sidebars3, the end bars 4L and the cross bars-5 andjdprovidingfour ventilated Openings min the. b1ocks.3 The side members 3 are attheir ends provided with Y shoulders 7, and projectingflangess having v plain ends 9.. Oneof the'side-bars3, pref---' erably the liace-fside of. the blockis provided 'jacent block. v I v k2 is similar'in form teth blok with 'an'an'gular recess 10 toreceive a] flange formed on the, adjacent block, and at the bottom of thcblock laal-flangeill is prov'ided which fits in ,The bl Specification of Letters JEatent.

shoulder 7 at the corners. The block 2 is scribed, skilled labor is not required, the
blocks are merely placed in position and are interlocked by the flanges 8 and 8 while the ends 9 of the block 2 fit against the shoulders of the block 1. The slight space between the ends of the blocks is filled in with liquid cement, thus making a practically air tight wall and a structure which is strong, durable and efficient and of good appearance.
As shown in Fig. 5, the numeral 12 dies ignates the outer curved wall of the block, and 13 is the inner curved Wall thereof, said Walls being connected by partitions 14C and 15. This block is substantially identical with the others excepting that the sides of the block are curved for forming a curved structure like a silo.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as de-,
'alined with the outer sides of the blocks of that course, theinclined faces of the flanges engaging eachother, and each blockof each coursehavingthe-upper edge of its outer side'rabbeted and provided at thelower edge of said side with a downwa-rdly extending flange, theflanges 'ofithe blocks of one course engaging in the rabbets ot'the blocks of the k,
. h 100 In testimony whereof I afiixmy, signature next lower course.
in presence of two witnesses.
