Abstract
417,158. Chimney tops. WOOD, H. M., 34, Rose Hill Park West, Sutton, Surrey. Nov. 2, 1933, No. 30418. [Class 25.] In a chimney top of the type built up from a number of superimposed sections in which lateral openings are formed by recesses in the sides and tops of the sections covered by a superimposed section and in which the mouths of the sections form an upwardly expanding central flue, the central passage or flue in a superimposed section is not partitioned and presents a surface which converges inwardly and upwardly and over the recesses of the section beneath so that air can flow not only radially into the flue but also laterally from a recess into the space at the sides of and above the recess. Fig. 1 shows a top for a single flue and comprising three sections. The lower section has a central passage 4 of square section at the bottom and tapering inwardly and upwardly to a cylindrical portion 5 at the top. Each side has a recess 6 wherein the sides curve into the back and the bottom curves into the back and sides, Fig. 5. A diagonal web 7 is formed between the recesses. The superimposed sections are of greater width and are formed with conical central passages leading to cylindrical portions 5. In each of the two lower sections the cylindrical portion 5 projects above the level of the upper edges of the recesses 6 and into the conical central passage of the section above. In the case of multiple flue chimney, single flue sections are arranged side by side, the adjoining sides of adjacent sections being plain instead of recessed.
