pw- MM ATTORN EYS Patented June 12, 1951 UNITED STATES T QFFICE 1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to a picture frame.
According to the present invention, a picture frame is provided which is so constructed that the picture appears in high relief.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a picture frame having a picture which appears in high relief.
The invention will be described in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. l is a front elevational view;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational View with the backing removed.
I is a beveled picture frame. 2 is a sheet of transparent material, such as glass located in the rear of picture frame I. 3 is an opaque mat, having a central opening 4. The mat 3 is preferably of a dark color, such as a deep green, in order to provide high relief of the picture, and is usually of a different color than the color or colors of the picture.
5 is a backing of suitable material, such as cardboard, and which has a central opening E. A beveled picture housing member 7 extends through the central opening 6 of backing 5, and is secured to the mat 3 by any desirable means, such as glueing.-
The housing member I is inwardly beveled and has a central opening 8. A picture 9 is carried in a recess I I of housing member l and is backed by a member I2 also carried in recess II. As shown in Fig. 3, the backing 5 is held in position by hooks I3 carried by frame I, and backing member I2 is held in position by hooks I4 carried by housing member I.
The picture 9 is visible through opening Ii of housing member I, opening G of mat 3 and transparent sheet 2.
If desired, the rearmost end of the frame may have a cover [5 around the housing member I. Such cover may be of paper, cardboard or the like.
If the picture 9 is to be changed, the cover I5, hooks I4, backing member I2 and picture 9 are removed, and a new picture and a backing member inserted in the recess I I. ihe backing member is again secured in position by hooks I4, and if desired a new cover [5 added.
Modifications may be made in carrying out the present invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and I am to be limited only by the appended claim.
I claim:
A picture frame comprising a beveled frame proper, a sheet of glass carried by said frame at the base of the bevel thereof, an opaque fiat mat having a central opening carried by said frame behind and in contact with said glass, a backing member in said frame disposed against said mat and having a central opening registering with but smaller than said opening of the mat, means for securing said backing member to said frame, a beveled inner frame member having a flat marginal portion in contact with and secured to said mat, said marginal portion extending through the said opening of the backing member, said inner frame member having a central opening formed by the base of the bevel and registering with the said opening of the mat and the said opening of the backing member, said inner frame member having a recessed portion in the rear of the base of the bevel, a picture carried in said recess, a backing in said recess for said picture and means for securing said last mentioned backing member to said inner frame, said picture being visible through said openings and said mat being of such color as to give the picture high relief.
