I (No ModeL) I. E. MYRIGK.-
SEWING MACHINE TRE ADLE.
N0. 255,323. Patented Mam-21,1882.
- WITNESSES:
name TATES ATENT errcao [SRAEL E. MYRIOK, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO JULIUS 'W. BRETT AND EDMUND R. VVHITING, OF SAME PLACE.
'SEWING-MACHINE TREADLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,323, dated March 21, 1882.
Application filed February 14, 1882. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISRAEL E. MYtncK, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and StateofOhio, haveinvented certain new and useful Itnprovementsin Sewing-MachineTreadles; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the invrntion, which willenableothersskilledin theartto which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to theaceompanying drawings, which form apartof this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a vertical sectional View.
This invention has for its object to produce a simple, efficient, and durable construction whereby a more natural walking motion is used to operate the treadles, and by which the motion may be more readily and easily reversed than heretofore.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A denotes a base-plate secured on the cross-bar B at the bottom of the frame, and provided at its rearend (the end nearest the operator) with a transverse shaft, 0, on which are journaled the treadles D D, one on each sidethe plate A.
E designates a bracket depending from the under side ofthe machine-table, and F a bandwheel or pulley journaled in said bracket at right angles to the treadles. Over this pulley extends a band or cord, G, having its ends socured to the front ends of the treadles, as shown. A vertical rod or brace, H, connects the bracket E with the base-plate.
I denotes theusual connecting rod, pivoted to one of the treadles and connecting the latter with the crank on the driving-shaft, 0r diroot with the drive-wheel. I,
' It will thus be seen that in operation the treadles can readily and easily be alternately depressed without lifting the heel therefrom, the band G during operation working over the pulley F, causing the latter to alternately turn in opposite directions, thus imparting a forth.
2. The combination, with thebracket E, carrying the band-wheel or pulley F, and having the perpendicular strengthening brace or red H, the lower end of which is secured to the base-plate A, which straddles the cross-bar of the machine, ofthe treadles D and band oreord G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISRAEL E. MYRIGK.
