PATENT OFFICE.
MOTOR-GEAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 1Y0. 7 59,609, dated May 10, 1904.
Application filed December 21, 1903. Serial No. 186,112. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrn HAVLUJ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Luther, in the county of Oklahoma and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Gear; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved motor-gear for operating light machinery by manual power; and it consists in the construction and combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a motor-gear embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same taken on the plane indicated by the line a a of Fig. 1.
1n the embodiment of my invention here shown I provide a frame or casing 1, which comprises a base 2, a pair of oppositely-disposed sides 8 and cross-bars 4, which connect the sides together and are located at suitable distances from their upper and lower ends.
In suitable bearings in the sides 3 is journaled a driving-shaft 5. On the said shaft are a pair of spur-gears 6, which are revoluble independently thereof, and a pair of ratchetwheels 7, which are fast to said shaft. The said spur-gears and ratchet-wheels are closely associated, and each of the ratchet-wheels is on one side of one of the spur-gears. The latter are provided with spring-pawls 8, which engage the ratchet-wheels.
Peripherally-grooved guide-rollers 9 are mounted on the inner sides of the cross-bars 4, as shown, and serve to guide the verticallydisposed rack-bars 10 of a reciprocating racklink 11. Each of these rack-bars engages one side of one of the spur-gears. Hence at each stroke of the rack-link the spui' gears, which are loose on the shaft 5, will be simultaneously reversely rotated. The pawl of one of the wheel.
operation the shaft will be rotated in one direction only.
The hand-lever 12 is pivotally mounted on brackets 13, which project from one side of the frame or casing at the upper end thereof, and the said hand-lever has its inner end connected to the reciprocating rack-link by a pitman 14 or other suitable device.
Power may be conveyed from the drivingshaft to the machine to be operated by the motor-gear by any suitable means. 1 here show in Fig. 2 a spur-gear 15 on one end of the driving-shaft for this purpose. A pulley for driving a belt may be substituted, as will be understood, or any other suitable device may be employed in lieu thereof. I do not limit myself in this particular.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A motor-gear comprising a frame having peripherally grooved guide-rollers mounted at the sides thereof, a rack-link having its rackbars engaging said grooved guide-rollers, a lever, a link connecting the latter to the racklink, spur-gears engaging the respective rackbars of the rack-link, a shaft on which said gears are loosely mounted and having its bearings in the frame, ratchet-wheels fast to said shaft, and pawls carried by the respective spur-gears and coacting with the respective ratchet-wheels to revolve the shaft in one direction when reciprocating movement is imparted to the rack-link by the lever.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
