1 Claim.
and quickly rotated to place an object'thereonA in proximity to a person seated at the table.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novel bearing support for a rotatable center piece of a, dining table, so that the center piece may be more easily rotated to bring an object thereon into proximity to a person there seated so that the object can be easily reached by the person without necessitating rising or overreaching.
rStill another .object of the invention resides in the provision of a table having a rotatable center piece, the table being strong, durable, efficient in operation, and extremely pleasing to the eye.
These, together With the various ancillary objects of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this table, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated, by Way of example only, in the accompanying drawings, where- 1n:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table embodying the novel structure and design;
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view as taken along one of the diameters of the table top in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view as taken along the line 3--3 of Figure 2; and
Fig. 4 is an elevational View of the table top of Figure 1.
With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, I0 generally represents a stationary top having a recess-i2 in which the novel center piece I4 is positioned and rotates within.
The stationary top Iii is connected and supported by one end of each of three ground engaging supports I6, I8 and 28 which are preferably formed from hollow pipe of suitable material, preferably aluminum or stainless steel. The centralg portion of these ground engaging supports'is curved to provide a suitable resting surface for the whole table. The other ends of the supports are connected to a central cylinder 22 having-.a bottom wall 24. The hollow cylinder 22 is elsewise supported by the stationary top I0 by. means of triangular wedges 26, 28, and 3|).
The" stationary top It has a plurality of annularly spaced apertures 32, 34, and 36. In threaded engagementl with the shaft 22 at its upper end are three annularly spaced rods 38, 40 and 42. These rods are additionally supported by means of semi-circular retainers 44, 46 and 48. Journaled on each of these rods 38, 48 and 4'2 are roller bearings having thickened portions at one end thereof and designated by reference numerals 58, 52 and 54.
A ball bearing 56 is positioned within the hollow cylinder 22 and is supported by the bottom wall 24. Within the hollow cylinder 22 is also emplaced a shaft 58 which is connected to the rotatable center piece. As can be best seen in Figure 2, the center piece I4 is rotatable with the shaft 56 within the recess I2 in the stationary top. The annular collars of the roller bearings l5I), 52 and 54 support the rotatable center piece I4 and engage the bottom surface thereof. The shaft V56 is, of course, rotatable within the cylinder 22 and the ball bearing 51 rotatably supports the bottom surface of the shaft 56.
Since from the foregoing, the construction and advantages of this table are readily apparent, further description is believed to be unnecessary.
However, since numerous modifications will readily occur to those skilled in the artf after a consideration of the foregoing speciiication and accompanying drawings, it is not intended to limit the invention to the precise embodiment of the table shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the appended claim. f
Having described the claimed as new is:
A table comprising a stationary top having a central circular recess therein, ground engaging supports terminally connected to said stainvention, what is tionary top and to a centrally located hollow cylinder having a bottom wall, a plurality of annularly spaced rods secured to said stationary top and `to said cylinder, a plurality of apertures in said stationary top, a roller bearing journaled on each of said rodsd and extending through said apertures, each of the bearings having an annular collar thereon, a ball bearing in said cylinder supported by said bottom Wall, a shaft emplaced in said cylinder supported by said ball bearing, a rotatable circular center piece secured to` said shaft positioned within said recess and supported by said annular collars of said roller bearings.
