(Cl. 3U-338) 1 Claim.
This invention relates to holders for razor blades which facilitates using razor blades for knives and particularly paring knives and also provides means for holding blades for sharpening, and in particular the invention includes a handle in the form of a small kitchen knife with pegs for positioning razor blades thereon and a spring clamp for frictionally holding the blades in operative position.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a handle on which razor blades may be frictionally held with the sharp edges of the blades positioned for use as knives or for sharpening.
Various devices have been provided for holding safety razor blades particularly between plates and whereas these are adapted for certain uses they do not provide comfortable or efficient paring knives, and therefore, are not generally used. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a holder in the form of a knife, which instead of having a sharp edge provides means for holding a razor blade so that the sharp edge thereof will project in place of the knife edge.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide a simple holder for safety razor blades which holds the blades so that the sharp edges thereof project in substantially the same position in relation to a handle as the blade of a paring knife.
Another object of the invention is to provide a safety razor blade holder in the form of a knife in which blades may readily be removed and replaced.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paring knife in which safety razor blades are used as the paring element, which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the new and novel combination, construction, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the claim appended hereto, and disclosed in the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view showing a side elevation of 'the holder 2 shown in Figure 1 illustrating a holder for a double edge blade with part of the handle broken away.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts the safety razor blade holder of this invention includes a plate I0, in the form of a blade, a handle formed of parts II and I2, and a spring clip I3.
The plate IU is provided with a plurality of blade holding posts and the spring clip is positioned to grip a razor blade between the posts. The spring clip i3 is of U-shape with coils I4 and I5 at the ends and at the ends of the coils are projecting ends I6 and I'I that are attached preferably by welding, to the inner surface of an arcuate lip I8 at the upper edge of the plate. The lip, as shown in Figure 5, substantially covers the coils and the projecting ends thereof.
The plate Ill is formed with a projecting end I9 and a heel 20 which provide guards that prevent accidentally cutting the hands with the sharp edge of the razor blade.
In the design shown in Figure 1 the plate I0 is provided with posts 2I and 22 that are positioned to register with notches in the ends of a razor blade 23, and in Figure 5 -a plate 24 is provided with posts 25 and 26 which are positioned to register with openings of a double edge blade 2l. In this design the plate is provided with a handle 28 and a spring clip 29 with the upper part of the spring clip covered by a lip 30.
With the parts arranged in this manner it is only necessary to pry the spring clip outward by the thumb nail and the razor blade may readily be removed and a new blade placed thereon. By this means safety razor blades may readily be used for paring and with the blades held in this manner the edges thereof may readily be sharpened.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a safety razor blade holder, the combination, which comprises, a plate having a blade portion with a beveled outer end and a shank providing a handle, handle sections secured to the shank, posts on the blade portion of the plate positioned to register with openings of a safety razor blade, and a U-shaped spring clip having arms with coils at the ends of the arms and with the ends of the coils secured to the upper edge of the 3 4` plate whereby the clip is adapted to urge a safety UNITED STATES PATENTS razor blade against the surface of the plate, said Number Name Date blade portion of the plate having an arcuate 1 467 434 Kennedy Sept 11' 1923 overhangng up extending from the upper edge 2269005 chaikin -f.- Jan. 6, 1942 thereof and substantially covering the coils of the spring clip.
