The subject of the present invention is a hanging le for vertical records in which a rider is arranged slidably and adjustably on a suporting rail, by means of which the iile is suspended, for instance in a cupboard.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of known hanging liles of this type. this being obtained according to the invention in that the rider is supported on the upper edge of the rail with at least one tongue and engages the outwardly bent edge of the rail with at least one part to be bent against the rail and that further a shield, which covers the whole visible surface of the rider, holds the lettering strip and consists at least partly of transparent material, is detachably arranged on the rider, folded over` its upper and lower edges. For securing the rider against undesired movement, projections and recesses may be Jprovided on the supporting rail and on the rider, which projections and recesses interengage and thus secure the rider. Both the supporting rail and the rider may be constructed of metal, plastics, etc.
Three examples of construction of the object of the present invention are shown diagrammatically in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a portion of the hanging file with the rider and supporting rail on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line II-II of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 shows a large part of the hanging iile in front elevation.
Figs. 4 and 5 show in section a variant of the rider.
Figs. 6 and '7 show a further example of construction in front view and cross-section.
In the form of construction shown in Figs. 1-3, l indicates the supporting rail for the hanging le. The rail I is secured to the top edge of a sheet 2 of the folded paper forming the hanging iile. One limb 3 of the U-shaped rail I is provided on the lower edge with an outwardly bent portion 4. On the rail I, a rider 6 is mounted. The latter is formed for example of sheet metal, Celluloid or some other plastic. In the rider 6, tongues 1, 8 are stamped out and bent over. The tongues 1 engage 'over the upper edge and the tongues 8 under the bent-over portion 4 of the rail I. The dimensions are so chosen that the rider 6 is mounted without great play on the rail I, and can be slid along it.
Over the rider 6 is tted a transparent shield 9 of Celluloid, whose ends I I), I I are folded over the upper and lower edges of the rider. In order to (Cl. L29-16.8)
prevent the shield 9 from being unintentionally stripped from the rider 6, a part I8 is pressed towards the rear in the rider 6, this part I8 engaging with a hole I9 of the shield 9. It would also be possible to lengthen the middle portion of the rear part of the shield 9 to such an extent that it comes to lie between the tongues 1. In consequence of its stiiness the shield 9 is rmly seated on the rider 6, and secures a strip I2, on which inscriptions are provided indicating the contents of the file. The shield 9 can be pushed oi the rider 6, so that the strips can be changed. In order to secure the rider 6 on rail I against accidental displacement, at least one projection I 3 which can enter into an opening I3 in the rail I, is provided on the rider. The dimensions are selected so that the projection is pressed into the hole I3 by the resiliency of the rider 6. The rider 6 can only be moved when a considerable pressure is applied to it. The holes I3 are arranged at uniform distances apart on the rail I, so that the rider may always be secured in predetermined positions. The whole front surface of the rider 6 may be used for applying the lettering,
l the upper part projects above the upper edge of the hanging iile and can thus receive the index reference. To the lower part further indications may then also be applied.
As shown in Fig. 4, the lower part of the rider 6 can be bent over from the folder 2 so far that a gap I6 is provided, into which the upper edges of cards may be inserted. Here also a large surface is formed, on which various inscriptions may be conveniently applied.
In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the lower edge I'I of the rider 6 is bent over. This edge engages under the bent-over part 4 of the rail I.
According to the examples of construction shown in Fig. 6 and 7, the projection I 3' is arranged on a spring lug 20, which is made by stamping out a section 2| from the material of Athe rider 6. The projection I 3 is thereby pressed resiliently Well into the holes I3.
The projections I3' may also be provided on the rider 6 at a higher level, so that they can engage with recesses along the upper edge of the rail I. Instead of the projections, teeth, etc., may be pressed out. Therider and the rail I may be constructed of metal. One or other of these parts may, however, be made of plastics.
What I claim is:
A hanging le for vertical records, comprising, in combination, a` lU-shaped, supporting rail adapted to be mounted over the upper edge of a sheet and having an outwardly bent lower edge,
said rail further having a plurality of spaced aligned holes formed therein, a rider movably mounted upon said rail and having an upper rearwardly bent portion extending over and above said rail, a tongue extending over; the. upperV edge of said rail and mounted thereon, another tongue situated substantially below the first-mentioned tongue and extending under said outwardly bent lower edge of the rail, and an at .least partly transparent shield fitting over said rider and being bent thereover to extend to the rear` thereof, said rider having a rearwardly directed projec-4 tion extending into a hole formed in the rear portion of said shield, and another projection fitting into the holes formed in said rail, saidA two tongues v' and said two projections being pressed out of said rider and integral therewith.
