Patented Sept. 22, 1942 lUNi'rD STATES .PATENT OFFICE l :,zsazis A FILING ELEMENT sppucaiion December 12, 19,41, serial No; 422,692 `4 claims. (ci. 12s-1am This invention relates to card illesl and is more particularly concerned with la novel index and signal arrangement in which an indicator slide or signal is associated with a support such as a card or similar element and a transparent sheath attached to the card as by clasping the latter and also by interlocking therewith. 'Ihe invention will best be understood by reference to the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing of one specific embodiment thereofl while its4 scope will be pointed out more particularly in the appended.
In the drawing: Fig. v1 is a front elevation of an index or file card and indicator `arrangement embodying the invention;
acters, of course, are visible through the front flange 34 of the slide in the case of a slide which is transparent.
Having thus described one embodiment of the invention, what I claim and desire by Patent to secure is:
1. The combination of a transparent sheath folded to provide a rear wall and a front wall,
the latter in turn being folded downwardly to provide a flange and a vchannel between said flange rand said front wall, a sheet having an upturned flange received in said channel and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a portion of,
4ment of the invention illustrated therein by way of example, there is shown a card index arrangement comprising a support such as a sheet ofv paper 4 having at the top a fold l perforated to receive a wire hanger not shown, the lower,
.marginal portion of the sheet being clasped by a transparent sheath 8 (see Fig. 3) which in this instance is further secured to the sheet l as by an interlocking arrangement now to be described. To this end, the sheet l is folded at i0 to provide a rebent or upturned flange I2, while the lsheath is folded at Il to provide a rear wall I8 and a front wall I8, the latter in turn being bearing one or more symbols or characters visible through said front wall, and an indicator slide folded to provide an upturned ange disposed behind said front wall and in front of the uptumed flange of said sheet in position to cooperate with said symbols or characters, said indicator having a handle portion at the rear of said sheet and at the front of said rear wall and extending upwardly from theupper edge of grasped to shift said slide horizontally.
folded at 22 and turned downwardy to provide a ange 2l, thus producing a channel 26 which receives the upturned flange -I2 of the sheet l.
The uptumed flange l2 is provided with one or more, herein a horizontal series of spots. symbols, or characters 28 for cooperation with a preferably transparent indicator'slide l0 folded at I2 to provide an upturned ange I4 .which lies between the upturned iiangeil of the sheet 4 2. The combination of a sheet having a horizontal series of symbols or characters on its front face, an indicator slide folded to provide a front flange for cooperation with said symbols or characters and havingy a handle portion at the rear of said sheet, and a transparent sheath having, a front wall which overlies said front ilange 'and lcovers said symbols or characters and a rear wall which overlies a part ,of said handle portion and a portion of the rear face of said sheet below said handle.
3. The combination of a transparent sheath foldedto provide a front wall and a rear wall, a sheet clasped between said walls and bearing on its' front face a horizontal series of characters or symbols visible through said front wall, and
an indicator slide folded to provide an upturned Ysauge disposed behind said front ywan and in front of said sheet in position to cooperate with the upper edge of said rear wall where it may and the front wall Il of the sheath l. The slide ,of the sheet may be moved horizontally to indicate a desired condition which may be representative" of percentages, dollars, locations, and
other desired information. The symbols or charbe grasped to shift said slide horizontally.
4. The combination of an'interlocking sheet and transparent sheath, said sheet bearing on its front face a horizontal series of symbols or characters, and said sheath having a front wall which overlies the rear face of said sheet and provides a handle which may be grasped to shift said slide horizontally.
