WRENCH.
Patented Feb.-14, 1882.
7 M i i w ordinary brace.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. BIELEFELD AND DAVID C. HINKLE, OF MOU'L'ION, OHIO.
WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,500, dated February 14, 1882.
Application filed December 29. 1881. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM HARMAN BIELEFELD and DAvID CLARK HINKLE, of Moulton, in the county ofAugla-ize and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, whichwill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line a; 00, Fig. 2.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to an improved wrench adapted to be used in connection with an ordinary brace; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction ofsaid wrench, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed,A represents the stock of our improved wrench, which is provided at its lower end witha square post, B, enablingit to be fitted and secured in any At its upper end the stock A is provided on each side with two laterallyprojecting parallel lugs, O O, forming guides for thejaws D D of the wrench. The lower ends of said jaws are provided with perforations E, fitting upon a pin, F, secured transversely in stock A, near its lower end. The
sides of the jaws D are provided with recesses G G, by which they are fitted between the guide-lugs (J O, as shown in the drawings, in such a manner asto be capablcof sliding apart from or toward each other. One of said jaws, D,is provided with a screw-threaded opening, H, in which works the threaded end of a thumbserew, I, the other end of which turnsloosely in a perforation, J, in the otherjaw, D.
K is a spring which is coiled upon thumbscrew I, between the jaws D D, which are thereby automatically forced apart.
The operation of our invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. By turning the thumb'screw I the jaws D maybe adjusted so as to fit any sized nut, and by adjusting the device in an ordinary brace it may be operated conveniently and effectively.
Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. In a wrench, the stock A, havinglaterallyprojecting lugs G and transverse-pin F, in combination with the jaws I), having recesses G and. perforations E, and mechanism for operating said jaws, substantially as set forth.
2. In a wreneh, the combination of the stock A, having laterally projecting lugs O and transverse pin F, the jaws D, having perforations E and recesses G, the thumb-screw I, and the spring K, all arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM HARMAN BIELEFELD. DAVID CLARK HINKLE. Witnesses:
