ERNEST W. PARMER, O15 CISCO, TEXAS.
WRENCH.
Application filed September 22, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ennns'r VJ. PARMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at (lisco, in the county of Eastland and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in renches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to wrenches and more particularly to a combined movable j a w and stationary wrench.
The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel means for adjustably controlling the position of the movable jaw with respect to the stationary jaw.
Another object of my invention resides in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple in construction, ellicient in operation and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
()ther objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of my invention taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction in which the arrow points; and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 in the direction in which the arrow points.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, I provide a wrench including a body 1 tapered toward one end from a point substantially intermediate its ends and curved longitudinally to provide a handle 2, the free end of the handle being enlarged into a substantially fiat rectangular formation and provided on its three free sides with inwardly extending and toothed recesses 3 of various sizes which incidentally form a stationary wrench. The enlarged end of the handle has an elongated stationary jaw 4 extending from one edge thereof. This jaw is preferably square in cross section and is provided on its inner face with a plurality of teeth 5.
Extending laterally from the rigid jaw 1 Specification of Letters Patent.

cent the respective ends in spaced parallel relation with each other and with the rigid jaw area plurality of uniformly spaced ears 10. Thumb screw bolts including threaded shanks 11, thumb pieces 12 and heads 13 are arranged longitudinally of each of the arms 7 and 8, incidentally being operable in the threaded openings 14: in the ears. These bolts have their heads arranged adjacent the outer faces of the inner ears and the thumb pieces 12 arranged adjacent the outer faces of the outer ears, the shank of each of the bolts being associated with a movable jaw 15, similar in construction to the rigid jaw and provided on its inner face with a plurality of teeth 16' cooperating with the teeth The outer bolt passes through the threaded opening 17 of the jaw, whereas the inner bolt is operable in a transversely arranged and semicircular screw-threaded recess 18 in the inner edge of the inner jaw. Since the bolts are arranged in a position at right angles to the inner face of the rigid jaw, it will be understood from Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings that when the thumb pieces 12 are operated the movable jaw can be worked inwardly and arranged in close relation with the rigid jaw. Predetermined positions may be determined by operating the thumb pieces 12 which rotate the shanks 11 and consequently cause the movable jaw to work toward or from the rigid jaw.
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to be understood that I am not to be limited to the exact details shown, however, I desire that great stress be laid upon the combination stationary and movable jaw type of wrench as well as the novel means for obtaining various adjustments of the movable aw.
From the above description taken in con .11ection with the accompanying drawings, it
can easily be seen that I have provided a device that is simple in construction, containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
I claim- 1. A wrench including a body, a handle formed on one end of the body, a rigid jaw extending from the opposite end of the body, a U-shaped frame associated with the body, thumb bolts ,associated with said frame, and a movable jaw adjustably operable by said thumb bolts.
A wrench including a body, a handle formed 011 one end of the body, a rigid jaw extending from the opposite end of the body, a U-shaped frame associated with said rigid jaw including spaced parallel arms, the terminals of said arms being rigidly associated with the jaw and extending laterally from the inner faces thereof, a movable jaw and means mounted on the arms of the frame for mounting the movable jaw on the'frame said means being operable to operate the movable jaw.
3. A wrench including a body, a handle formed on one end of the body, a rigid jaw extending from one side edge of the opposite end of the body and provided on its inner face with a plurality of teeth, a U-shaped frame associated with said rigid jaw including spaced arms, the terminals of which are rigidly associated with the jaw and extended laterally of the inner face of the jaw, ears formed on the inner faces of the arms, thumb bolts operable in said cars, and a movable jaw similar in construction to the rigid jaw mounted on said thumb bolts and adj ustably operable by said thumb bolts.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
