efficient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this disclosure proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts of all the views.
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal view of-a lip stick case embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 is a top view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the cap component included in this embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the case shown in Fig. 1. This view ShOWs the article in use condition.
Fig. 5 shows the case component of a modified embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 6 is the cap component embodiment.
In the drawings the numeral l5 designates a cylindrical case open at its top end and preferably closed at its bottom end. Free to slide within said case I5, is a carrier cup I6 which holds a stick of pomade, cosmetic or the like. A pin ll extending laterally from said carrier, rides free along the longitudinal slot I8 in the wall of the case l5. The carrier I6 is maintained normally near the bottom of said case l5, by meansof a tension spring l9, whose ends are respectively secured to said carrier and floor of the. case. A teat or other suitable projection extends laterally of the case I5, near the bottom of said case and below the lowest position of the pin l1; said teat 20, being adapted to engage within the pressed thread 2| formed in the wall of the cap or cover 2|, which is in telescopic fit over the case IS. The cap 2| and the case l5, are in threaded concentric relation in the of said modified arrangement for use condition, as illustrated in Fig. 4. When the cap 2| is unscrewed from OK the case I5, it can be freely slid over the top of the latter to serve as a cover thereof.
To use the lip stick, cover 2| is removed from the open end of the case I5, and set onto the lower end thereof, so that teat 20 engage in thread ZI. Rotation of said cover with respect to the case in one direction, will cause the cover 2| to receive the case I5 therein and the edge 2|" of said cover 2| will contact pin I1, and push it along slot [8. The carrier l6 will move towards the open end of the case whereby pomade stick 22 becomes exposed to any desired extent. Such movement of the carrier IE, will cause the spring l9 to become stressed. Upon rotation of the cover 2| in reverse direction, the carrier and its pomade stick will withdraw automatically into the case l5.
In the, modified embodiment, the cap 3| is adapted for good frictional sliding telescopic fit on the casing 32. Here teat 20 and thread 2| are omitted; reliance being had solely on such frictional fit for overcoming the action of the spring ,9. In all other respects, the components and their relation are the same for the embodiment shown in Figs. 5 and 6, as prevails in the article illustrated in Fig. 4. Parts of the said modified embodiment which are identical with parts included in the first described embodiment, are respectively'designated by identical numerals respectively increased by one hundred.
It is to be noted that straight sliding frictional contact relied on in the modified embodiment for operation, is accomplished by rotary sliding contact afforded by the threaded engagement of cap and casing in Fig. 4. In reality, the screw movement is frictional sliding contact up an inclined plane.
This invention is capable of numerous forms and various applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It. is therefore intended and desired that the embodiments herein shall be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and that the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; reference being had to the following claim rather than to the specific description herein to indicate the scope of this invention.
Iclaim:
In a lip stick case of the character described, a tubular casing having an open end and a substantially elongated longitudinal slot, a pomade stick carrier positioned within said casing and slidable therealong, a pin extending from said carrier and thru said slot, spring means positioned within the casing, normally adapted to maintain the carrier away'fro'm the open end of the casing and a cap telescopically mounted on the casing and removable therefrom, adapted to cover said open end of the casing when the lip stick case is not in use, and when set on the other end of the casing, its rim will contact the pin upon said cap being moved towards the open end of the casing and shift the carrier towards said open end of the casing whereby the spring is stressed; the cap and easing being in threaded engagement when said cap is on the other end of the casing; said cap being threaded for a, length sufiicient upon movement of said cap on the casing to shift the carrier its intended scope of travel along the interior of the casing and said casing being provided with an externally projecting teat near its end away 4 from its open end; said teat being adapted to engage the thread of the cap. 1
