Description

(No Model.) v
H. J, FISHER, Jr.
SHUTTER FASTENER.
Patentd Jan. 3,1882.
ATTORNEYS WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. FISHER, JR.,OF POINT PLEASANT, WEST VIRGINIA.
SH UTTE'R-FASTENER.
srncrrxca'nolv forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,854, dated January 3, 1882.
'Application filed November 19, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. FISHER, Jr., a citizen of the United States, resident of Point Pleasant, in the county of Mason and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Blind and Sash Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same,
reference being had to the annexed drawings,
'ment of the pivot-bearing, the eye-bar, the
spiingcatch, and the long fastening-bar, having its journals engaged with the pivot-bear- 111 g.
1n the annexed drawings, the letter A designates a channel or passage out through the sill of the window-frame under the windowstrip.
B represents oneof the blinds, near the lower corner of which, on the inside, is secured the pivot-bearin g G. This consists of a small castin g having a central aperture, a, communicating with a longitudinal recess, .b, open at one end in its face, and with a transverse bearing recess, 0, in its base.
D indicates a long fastening-bar, having at one end a cross-head, d, made in journal form, and adapted to engage the bearing c of the casting 0 when the bar is passed through the opening a. The bar in this position can be vibrated horizontally, so as to be thrown back out of the way when not in use, and brought forward at right angles with the plane of the shutter when required for operation. The free end of the bar is provided with a series of perforations, e, which may be supplemented with ratchet-teeth g, and it is designed to engage,
when passed through the passage A of the window-sill, with the end h of a spring-catch, E, which is secured to the wall or windowframing inside the room.
F indicates the under blind, over which the edge of the blind B laps when they are brought together. To thelower corner of this blind, on the inside, is secured a small e-ye bar, G, having an eye or slot, 75, formed in one end, which projects across the joint between the blinds sufficiently to allow the bar D to be passed through said eye or slot when the blinds are being drawn closed and prior to the passage of the bar through the opening A in the sill. This eye-connection forms an additional security in the fastening of the blinds. In this manner a very simple and strong fastening is formed for the blinds, and the devices are so arranged that they cannot be reached except from the inside of the room.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The long bar-fastening D, having the perforations e at one end and the journal-head d at the other, in combination with the pivotbearing 0 and the spring-catch E, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the pivot-bearing O and the long Vibratory tastening-barD,journaled thereto and having the perforations e, of the eye-bar G, secured to the opposite blind, the channel or passage A in the framing, and the spring-catch E, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY J. FISHER, JR.
