The present invention relates to a medicinal accessory for the local treatment of hemorrhoids.
A principal object of the invention is to provide a method of makin a new medicated tampon in the nature of a suppository. The article and process are characterized by the fact that a fibrous or like body of suitable form is soaked in a medicinal anti-hemorrhoid solution, and thereafter the mass is dried to preserve said composi-- tion and subsequently rendered semi-rigid by immersion in or coating with a solution in the nature of gelatine which, upon setting, gives the tampon the desired firmness,
By way of practical example, the manufacturing process indicated above can be executed in the following manner:
A tampon is shaped out of absorbent cotton which has the form of a small cylinder measuring 3 to 5 centimeters in length and 5 to 12 millimeters in diameter. One of the two ends of the tampon may be rounded. The resulting mass is, thereupon, soaked in a medicinal substance or substances which are normally prescribed for the treatment of hemorrhoids. After the core thus impregnated has dried, it is dipped in or coated by a solution containing some gelatinous matter; for example, a solution containing either gelatin proper or some analogous substance. Thereupon, the process is continued in accordance with well known methods which will not alter the properties of the medicaments involved. Drying is continued until the tampon assumes a semi-rigid form which will be sufficient to avoid deformation during either trans-port or initial use.
The tampon which has been obtained in accordance with the manufacturing process described above is to be used for local treatment of hemorrhoids. Such a tampon will stay in place and maintain its efiect over a period of several hours, without disintegrating within the rectum, as in the case with the pure gelatine suppositories. In application the tampon will soften up as the result of contact with the natural moi-stness of the mucous membranes and will thus permit the medicinal substances which it contains to exercise their beneficiary influence.
I claim:
A method of manufacturing a tampon for the local treatment of hemorrhoids, [characterized by the steps of impregnating a fibrous pencil-like body with an anti-hemorrhoidal solution, drying said body to permit the preservation of the properties of the solution, then treating the dried body with a gelatinous composition and permitting the same to set to give the tampon firmness.
