Abstract

Filaments, treating with hygroscopic substances.-Artificial silk is given the characteristic feel and elasticity of natural silk by treatment with an hygroscopic substance such as glycerine, glucose, or a mixture thereof, with or without the addition of acetic acid, tartaric acid, &c. When an unacidulated bath is used, subsequent treatment with an acid of the above nature may follow. The silk is dried without washing.
