Description

(No ModeL) R. S. CARR.
HOE. No. 251,094. Patented Dec. 20,1881.
WITNESSES: 0e INVENTOR W H M S Can/L.
ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
ROBERT S. CARR, OF HAMILTON, OHIO.
HOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 251,094, dated December 20, 1881.
Application filed October 26, 1880.
To all zrhom it may concern Be itknown that I, ROBERT S. CARR, of Hamilton, Butler c0unty,Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoes, of which the followingis a specification.
In this hoe the blade is separable from the eye.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a-side elevation, and Fig. 2 a front elevation, of the eye; Fig. 3, a front elevation of the blade, and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the hoe complete.
The blade H has two lower perforations, I, and one upper perforation,J. Thelatter may, if desired, be open at the top.
The eye B has upon its Front two projecting hooks, 0, whose shanks fill the pertorations I in the blade. The blade is put in place by ahinge-like motion, and when in place is rigidly held and prevented from vertical, side,or separating motion by the lit of the hook-shanks and by the hooks proper. Upon the top and front of the eye is cast the locking-lug D, which enters the perforation J in the blade. A pin, K; put through a hole, E, in the locking-lug D, as shown, prevents the reversal of the hinge-like motion and the consequent separation of the parts. The locking-lug D is located above the ferrule, as shown, and the hole- E has an opening, F,in the rear, which permits (No model.)
a lever whose fulcrum is at the bottom hooks,
and as the hook-shanks fill the perforationsin 5 the blade the only office of the locking-pin is to prevent the separation of the parts. No working strain isimposed upon the lockingpin, nor is the locking-lug required to fit anywise neatly in order to give rigidity to the structure.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a hoe, the blade H, having perforations I I and J, the eye B, having bottom hooks, U 0, whose shanks are adapted to fill the blade perforations I I, and locking-lug D, with pin-hole E, and the locking-pin K, all combined and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a hoe, the combination, with blade H, having perforations I I and J, of the eye B, having bottom hooks, G O, and the lockinglug D, located above the eye and having the hole E, with rear opening, F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ROBERT S. CARR.
