PUNGHING MACHINE.
No. 252,989. Patented Jan. 31,1882.-
1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM 0. BABE, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
PUNCHlNG-MACHlNE.
SPECIFICATIlfON forming. part of Letters Patent No. 252,989, dated January 31, I882.
I Application filed September I, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. BARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Punching-Machines, ot'which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in punching-machines, and has for its object to provide a nose or die-holder which can be readily detached and replaced for the purpose of adapting the machine to punch difierent articles and for replacing thenose or die-holder by a new onein case it becomes broken. This object I accomplish by the construction of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a side View, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a front end view. Fig. 3 is a rear end view. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the machine-frame; and B, the nose or die-holder, detachably secured to the frame. The frame A is cast to the usual shape and carries the usual appliances for operating the punch 0, while the nose B occupies the usual position ontheframe. The means whereby the nose B is secured to the frame A consists of a wedge-shaped key, D, which is driven through a protruding porthe machine can be used for different kinds of work, while if the nose breaks it can be replaced by a new one for restoring the machine to a working condition, the other parts remaining intact.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the machine-frame having a transverse opening or eye and side notches, c e, at the rear, of the nose or dieholder B. having its shank passed through said opening or eye, and the Wedge D, extending through the shank and resting in the said notches, all substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
