Application April 6, 1948, Serial No. 19,382
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a support for a shower head and curtain, and more particularly to a support for a shower head and curtain for use on a bath tub.
An object of this invention is to provide a support for a shower head and curtain capable of being attached to a bath tub, with ease and facility.
Another object of the invention is to provide a support for a shower head and curtain which is of simple construction.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent in the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the sup port for the shower head and curtain according to the present invention, attached to a bath tub;
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the device shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view, with parts broken away and in section, of the frame carrying the shower head;
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational view, with parts in section and parts broken away, of the support for the shower head and curtain;
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken on line 5-5 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 1.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration, is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the support for a shower head and curtain comprises a bracket I having a flat portion It secured to an overflow pipe 2 of a bath tub 4 by means of a U-bolt 5 arranged so as to embrace the pipe 2. The U-bolt 5 is provided with threaded ends 6 which project through a pair of spaced openings 1 in the bracket I. A pair of lock nuts 8 and 9 are threaded onto the ends 6 of the U-bolt 5, thus securing the fiat portion [8 of the bracket I in place on the overflow pipe 2 of the bath tub 4.
The bracket 1 also includes an arcuatelyshaped portion ll which projects upwardly from the fiat portion 10, and is secured to the latter, the portion H terminating in a vertically-disposed socket l2. An end of a center post I3 is positioned within socket l 2, the post being releasably secured therein by means of a set screw [4 extending through an aperture l5 and engaging the exterior surface of the post. Slidably mounted on the other end of the center post [3 is an open-ended tube It, which is releasably secured to said post by means of a set screw ll extending through an aperture l8 in the tube 86, and bearing against the exterior of the post l3. Carried by the tube [6 is a horizontally-disposed U- shaped frame 26 which includes a pair of hollow arms 2i and 22 in which are slidably mounted rods 23 and 2 6, respectively, the rods 23 and 24 being releasably secured in hollow arms 2| and 22 by means of set screws 21 extending through apertures 28 in said arms and bearing against the exterior surfaces of said rods. By releasing the set screws 2?, the rods 23 and 24 may be telescoped within the respective arms 2! and 22. Arran ed along the arms 2! and 22 are a plurality of hooks 29, each of said hooks having an end engaging an opening 3i] formed in a shower curtain 3 l.
Releasably secured on the top of the tube I6 is a pipe 34. Pipe 34 is secured to the tube I6 by means of a U-bolt 37, which embraces the pipe 34 and has its ends projecting through a pair of apertures 38 in a plate 39 arranged in abutting relation to the tube [6. The ends of the U-bolt 31 are threaded at 40 and 4| and a pair of castle nuts 42 and 43 are threaded onto the ends 40 and 4| of the U-bolt 31 to thereby releasably secure the pipe 34 on the tube It. The pipe 36 has one end connected to the hot or cold water inlet pipe 35 (or hot and cold water mixing inlet pipe, if such is the case) by means of rubber hose 36. The other end of the pipe 34 is connected to a conventional shower head 32! which is provided with a plurality of perforations 33.
I claim:
1. In a support for a shower head and curtain for attachment to a Water pipe connected to a bath tub, a bracket having a vertically-disposed socket secured to said pipe, a post having an end positioned in said socket and projecting above said bath tub, means for securing said post in said socket, an open-ended tube carrying a horizontally-disposed U-shaped frame fixedly secured to the other end of said post, and means embracing the upper end of said tube for securing the shower head thereto.
2. In a support for a shower head and curtain for attachment to a water pipe connected to a bath tub, a bracket having a vertically-disposed socket secured to said pipe, a post having an end positioned in said socket and projecting above said bath tub, means for securing said post in said socket, an open-ended tube carrying a hori- 'zontally-disposed U-shaped frame fixedly secured to the other end of said post, and means embracing the upper end of said tube for securing the shower head thereto, said means comprising a U-shaped bolt for embracingly engaging a pipe carrying the shower head, and a plate arranged in abutting relation to said tube and secured to said U-shaped bolt.
