WINDOW CLEANING DEVICE Filed June 11, 1949 Patented June 3, 1952 UNITED STATES CLEANING DEV-ICE Frank Jordan, Newllork Nzx.
Application June 11, 1949, Serial No. 98,503
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a window cleaning device.
It is an object of the present invention to .provide a window cleaning device wherein both sides of the window glass can be cleaned simultaneously with the operation of the device from the one side of the window and wherein there is a simple adjusting means for rendering the device accessible to the window and to tighten the device thereupon and wherein there is a simple means for the securement of the washing and cleaning elements.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a window cleaning device which is of a type adapted to clean on opposite sides of the window simultaneously, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to adjust and manipulate, has a minimum number of parts, light in Weight and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a perspective view of the device being used upon a window.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the wiping element.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the sponge washing element.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of the lock for the hinged part.
Figs. 6 and '7 are respectively sectional views taken on lines 6-6 and '|-l of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the figures, It) represents a main vertical part having a clamping bolt l I and nut I2 at its upper end and an adjustable slide l3 adapted to be secured by the clamping bolt and nut. A vertical plate I4 is secured to the slide 13 by bolts IS. The vertical plate has snap fastening elements IS on the opposite faces thereof and at the top and bottom. Upon these snap fasteners there can be secured a washing or sponge element I! having cooperating snap fas tener elements [-8. On the inner face there are four snap fastener elements adapted to receive the four cooperating fastener elements [8 of the sponge ll, Fig. 4.
Upon the outer face of the plate M are two snap fastener elements l6 adapted to receive a wiping cloth I9 having two cooperating snap fastener elements 2! thereon, the ends of the cloth being bent over the top and bottom edges to receive the elements 2|.
A spacing bar 23 is connected to the vertical part In and to the opposite end of this bar is a vertical part 24. A hinged part 25 is hinged at 26 to the upper end of the vertical part 24. The upper end of this part carries a bracket 21 which is adjustably retained on the upper end of the member 25 by a clamping bolt means 28'. This member 2! has a plate 29 and snap fastener elements 3| corresponding to the plate l4 and fastener elements l6 above described. This plate and snap fastener elements are adapted to retain and support either the washing element IT or the wiping cloth l9.
Slidable upon the parts 24 and 25 is a locking member 33 having handle portions 34 and 35. This locking member 33 surrounds the parts 24 and 25 and slides upon the same. The locking member is held in its forward position free of the member 25, upon a stop screw means 36, Fig. 2.
When the locking member 33 is retracted, the
device can be easily located over the window by extending the same either upwardly from the lower edge of the window or downwardly from the upper edge thereof. With either the washing or the wiping elements in place and with the hinged member 25 locked in its vertical position, a double wiping action can be effected upon the window glass.
The device is preferably made of light weight material such as wood and shaped so that it can be easily handled.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A window cleaning device including a pair of elongated and normally vertical members of different lengths adapted to be disposed upon different sides of a window sash with the shorter member located upon the near side of said sash, means rigidly interconnecting the lower ends of both members and spacing them a fixed distance apart, a hinged member pivotally connected to the upper end of the shorter vertical member and capable of being swung downwardly away from the window, a locking sleeve slidably mounted upon said shorter vertical member for retaining the hinged member in vertically raised position upon said shorter vertical member and being retracted to allow said hinged member to be released and swung away from the window, stop means on said shorter vertical member for determining a retracted position of said lockin sleeve, the latter being slidable upward from said of the longer vertical member, a second bracket jmounted adjustably upon the upper end of the hinged member, a plate mounted upon each bracket, a window engaging element mounted 10 upon each plate, and means for releasably securing each window engaging element to its respective plate.
