WINDOW-CLEANER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,921, dated April 17, 1883.

To all whom t't may concern Be it known that I, JAMES KIRKHAM, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Gleaners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to devices for cleaning windows, and will be fully described hereinafter.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my device with its lower end broken away. Fig. 2 is an edge view of it in position for cleaning a window-pane, and Fig. 3 is a detail.

My cleaner may be made of any elastic material; but I prefer to make itof wire. It consists of two arms, A A, joined together at one end, each arm being adapted to receiveasleeve, B, that may be adjusted up and down on it and secured in adjustment by a set-screw, b. Each sleeve B carries a bracket, B, that is in turn secured to a block, 0, and this block is designed to receive a cleansing-pad, D, which may consist of sponge, rags, chamois-skin, waste, or any convenient material, and it may be secured in place by strong rubber bands d, or by strings, or by wires; or I may let a strip or strips of rubber into the face of each or either of the blocks, so that when I want rubber surfacesfor the work to be done I can take off the pads D and leave the rubber exposed.

The arms of my device are set so as to have sleeve, a, so that when I desire to clean one side of a window I may detach the upper section and discard the rest of the cleanser.

It is unnecessary to describe the operation of my device, as this is fully illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a window-cleaner, the combination,

with elastic arms, of vertically-adjustable padholders and means,substantially as described, for securing them in adjustment.

2. The pad-holders G, sleeves B, brackets B, and set screw or screws, in combination with the arms A A, as set forth.
