T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE L. MnNKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at WV. Grove, Asbury Park, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Im' provements in Glaziers Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in glaziers tools, wherein a knife is provided having downwardly extending projections adapted to be inserted beneath old putty on a window pane to remove the same therefrom.

Heretofore it has been necessary in the use of the old type of putty knife for the operator to first apply the knife beneath the putty along the pane of the glass and then to scrape the remaining particles of putty from the window frame, which requires two operations and a considerable length of time is consumed in this manner, while in my new and improved device the quantity of work done is materially increased in proportion to the amount of time required.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan View of my improved putt-y knife, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a section showing the top part of the left-hand blade removed, and Fig. & is an end elevation of the two blades looking from the left hand side of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the blade of my improved putty knife; 2 is an ear formed thereon to which the handle 3 is attached by means of screws or rivets e. A downwardly projecting extension 5 is formed integral with'the blade 1 and has at its lowermost point an outwardly projecting end 6. A bolt 7 is provided which slides horizontally in a slot 8 formed in the blade 1 and is adapted to co-act with a slot 9 in the blade 10 having a downwardly projecting member 11 corresponding to the downwardly projecting member 5 on the blade 1 and also an outwardly projecting member 12 which corresponds to the outwardly projecting member 6 on the member 5. co-act with the slots 14 in the blade 1 in order that the device may be adjusted to the difl'erent widths of the sash bar which is to be cleaned.

In operation, when it is desired to remove the putty from a window with my new and improved device, the bolt 7 is loosed and the member 11 is moved toward the member 5, the arms 13 sliding through the slots 14 until the space between the members 5 and 11 is substantially the same as the width of the sash bar from which the putty is to be removed. The bolt is then tightened and the whole is ready for use. Starting at the top of the window, the device is pressed downwardly over the sash bar and the putty is removed by means of the L-shaped blades formed by the downwardly projecting members 5 and 11 and the outwardly projecting members 6 and 12 which engage beneath the putty adjacent the glass and also beneath the putty adjacent the sash bar and thereby cut the putty from the window in one operation, which saves a great deal of time and labor.

IVhile in the foregoing I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I can change the arrangement of parts without materially departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a glaziers tool, a blade having an L-shaped member formed at one end there of, a slot formed intermediate the L-shaped member and the opposite end of said blade and intermediate its sides, a second blade having a slot formed in one end thereof, and an L-shaped member formed at the end opposite the slot, a bolt adapted to adjustably connect the said blades, the first mentioned L-shaped member having slots formed in the sides thereof adjacent the blade, arms formed on the second mentioned blade adapted to co-act with the said slots in the adjustment of the tool, and means at the side of the first mentioned blade to attach a handle.
