This invention has for" its primary. object a simple and eflicient constructionoftrowel for applying putty to windownpanes and sashes, the putty applying, blade being ="-double ended and c'apable'ofb'ing used with equal facility at the right or lefthand'side of a window frame-without reversing the positionof the tool, the blade embodying curved ends and a fiat or plain intermediate,

whereby the putty maybe conveniently-ap plied and run to the desiredshapein the angle-between the sash and pane by a movet of the blade in one direction and subsequently properly smoothed by merely changing slightly the angle of the blade and smoothing it backwardly over the putty. And the invention also has for its .object a simple tool of thischaracter embodying an improved construction of hard putty removing knife.

With these and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which: I

Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating one application of my improved glaziers tool; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device, showing its use, a part being broken away and a portion of a window sash and frame being shown, in horizontal section; and, Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the hard putty knife employed and related parts.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

6 designates a knife which is designed to remove the hard putty and which embodies oppositely beveled cutting edges 7, the knife being substantially of spear shape, as shown. The knife 6 is formed at its base with a rectangularly disposed apertured ear 8 which is adapted to be slipped over the the. nut 9 serves not only to hold the knife 6 in place, but also to hold the shank securely in the handle 5. Preferably, the in- .ner face of the ear 8 is ridged or roughened, as indicated at 10, the ridges embedding themselves in the adjoining end of the handle 5 so as to prevent the knife 6 from turning relative to the handle. If desired, the apertured ear 8 of the knife 6 may be formed with a tongue 11 adapted to slide in a groove 12 formed in the threaded end of the shank 4, whereby when the parts are in place and the nut 9 tightly screwed up, the shank i will be prevented from turning around in thehandle and wear will thereby be precluded.

In the practical use of my improved putty trowel, when the same is employed to apply putty to the angle between a window pane and sash, the putty may be easily applied by running the blade along the angle with the handle slightly tilted so that one of the beveled edges 3 acts on the putt-y and gives it the desired shape.
