Description

(Model-.) I
M. GOLDBERGER.
POCKET 'FOR. REVEERSIBLE GARMBNTS. No 250,228. Patented Nov. 29,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORITZ GOLDBERGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET FOR REVERSIBLE GARMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,228, dated November 29, 1881.
ApplicationfiledJulyQii,1881. (ModcL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORITZ GOLDBERGER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pockets for Reversible Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates especially to the pockets of reversible garments; and it consists in combining with a reversible garment having a pocket-openin g in the body thereof a pocket divided into two compartments by a partition layer of fabric which is attached at its upper or outer edge to one edge of the pocket-opening, leaving both sides of the pocket disconnected at their outer edges to form mouths to the compartments, and also to allow the pocket to be passed through the pocket-opening for bringing it to either side of the garment. One side of the pocket has combined therewith a suitable device for temporarily connecting it to the garment adjacent to its outer edge, and a flap is applied to one edge of the pocketopening for covering such connection, while a flap is also applied to the other side of the pocket, at the outer edge thereof, for engaging the free edge of the pocket-opening, as hereinafter more fully described.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are face views, showing one of the positions of the pocket, a portion of the garment-flap being broken away in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal central section.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. The letter A designates a portion of a reversible coat or other similar garment, having formed therein an opening, B, of suitable shape to receive and allow the passage of the pocket 0. This pocket is composed of three parallel layers of fabric-namely, the two sides at d and a partition layer, e-whereby it is divided into two compartme'nts,f g, and the partition layer is attached at its upper or outer edge to one edge of the pocket-opening B, as at h, Fig. 3, the sides being left entirely disconnected at such edge. I
The letter I designates a button applied to the side d of the pocket, engaging a buttonhole, j, in the garment, and constituting a means for temporarily connecting the said side of the pocket to the garment, this button being situated adjacent to the outer or top edge of the pocket. In lieu of the button I, however, a hook and eye or other similar contrivance may be used.
K designates a flap applied to the upper or confined edge of the pocket-opening B, and depending therefrom over the button I or its substitute, so as to cover the latter; and L is a flap depending from the side at of the pocket, at the outer edge thereof.
When the pocket is placed on that side of the garment shown in the drawings, the other side then constituting the face of the garment, the side d of the pocket is connected to the garment by the button I or its substitute, and in this manner the mouth of the compartment g is exposed through the pocket-opening B beneath the garment-flap K, the effect of the button being to keep the side d close up to the garment, and thus insure the reception of the articles in the compartment g. When it is desired to place the pocket on the opposite side of the garment, the button I is disengaged from the button-hole, the pocket is passed bodily through the opening B, and the pocket-flap L is made to engage the free edge of such openin g-that is to say, this free edge is inserted under the flap, between it and the side at of the pocket, the mouth of the compartment f being thus directly exposed, while the reception of articles therein is insured by the flap.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a reversible pocket, the combination, with a garment provided with the pocket-opening B, of the pocket 0, consisting of layers d and d and partition 0, the latter being attached at its upper edge to the garment above the pocket-opening, and the, upper edges of the layers d and d being free from permanent attachment to the garment, whereby the pocket can be drawn through the pocket-openin g from one side of the garment to the other, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination, with a garment having a longitudinal pocket-opening, B, and depend ing flap K, of the pocket 0, consisting of the In testimony whereof I have hereunto set [0 layers d and d and partition 6, the former bemy hand and seal in the presence of two subing provided with the attached flap L, and scribing Witnesses.
the latter being attached to the garment above the pocket-opening, said layers d and (1 being MORITZ GOLDBERGER. [L. S.]
free from permanent attachment to the garment, whereby the pocketcan be passed throu gh Witnesses:
the pocket-opening from one side of the gar- W. HAUFF,
ment to the other, substantially as described. WILLIAM MILLER.
