A'rrhur Klein A OFf NEY Patented Mar. 21. 1950 a;
UNITED STOATESWPATENT OFFICE Arthur Klein, New York, N. Y., assignor to Glensder Textile Crp., New-York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application August 26, 1948, Serial No. 46,340 3 Claims (01. 206-44) The present invention relates to a display and 4 I dispensing package for a scarf, kerchief or the like, and more particularly for a lady's scarf or'the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a package of the character described which willpermit adequate and attractive display of an individual article disposed therein.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a package of the character described which may also be used as the dispensing container for the article displayed therein.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a package of the character described which will protect and preserve the contents thereof during its display.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a display and dispensing package of the character described in which the contents cf the package cooperates and combines with the receptacle thereofto provide a package of novel and attractive appearance and which is variable in appearance in accordance with any variation in the contents.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a display and dispensing package of the character described which may be conveniently disposed for display with great savings in display space.
It is a still further object of the present invention to provide a display and dispensing package of the character described which is sturdy and durable; which is economical to produce; and which is simple and easy to assemble.
The foregoing and other advantages and superiorities of the display and dispensing package for a scarf orthe like of the present invention will become more readily apparent to any one skilled in the art from the embodiment thereof shown in the accompanying drawings and from the description following. It is to be understood, however, that such embodiment is shown by way of illustration only, to make the principles and practice of the invention more readily comprehensible, and without any intent of limiting the invention to the specific details therein shown.
assembled package of the present invention; shown as resting on a display surface.
Referring more speciflcally'to the accompanying drawings, the package of the present invention comprises a receptacle, generally designated as l0, shaped and decorated as a candle stub, and a scarf or similar article of fabric or the like it which supplies the flame resembling portion to the overall design of the package which resembles a candle.
The receptacle It! comprises an open ended cylinder l2 of a transparent, thin and flexible material, such as an acetate plastic material or the like. The cylinder I2 is provided at 'each end with inwardly formed flanges 13 as by the inturning of the respective cylinder edges. The cylinder is also provided with a bottom closure M as of paper board or the like, which rests on and is retained by the lower flange l3, and a top closure 15 which is formed with a central aperture l B and which is adapted to be supported against the upper of the flanges l3 by the receptacle contents or scarf ll. The closures I4 and I5 mayv be readily inserted into the cylinder, past either of the flanges l3 by presenting them edgewise to either of the cylinder openings and then slightly distorting the cylinder end to substantially oval shape, thus permitting insertion of the cover, edgewise, along the longer diameter of the formed oval opening. Due to the resilience of the cylinder'forming material, release of the distorting pressure will permit it to spring back into the original shape. The closures l3 which are freely disposed within the cylinder, may then be readily manipulated to rest on the respective flange l3 in closing position. 1
In assembling the package, the bottom closure M is first inserted into place. The scarf or the like I l is then rolled up into a cylindrical roll I! of approximately the same diameter as the cylinder 10, with one corner It of the scarf projecting endwise from the roll H. The scarf corner I8 is then projected through the opening It in the closure member 15 and the roll I! is then pushed into the cylinder l 0 and the closure I5 is tilted and pressed into the cylinder. The pressure of the scarf fabric will automatically tend to turn the. closure l5 into closing position against the upper flange I3. The corner [8 will project from the cylinder in simulation of a candle flame, with the cylinder giving the appearance of a candle stub; the body of the kerchief displayed through the transparent cylinder walls will impart its color and design to the candle-like body of the package.
In order to enhance the candle-like appearance of the package, various candle-like markings and decorations may be applied to the cylinder Ill, such as the opaque portion 28 adjacent the top end of the cylinder, which has the irregular, black marginal line 2| in resemblance of candle drippings. Another opaque portion 22 adjacent the bottom of the cylinder may he provided in resemblance of a candle base.
Other forms of candle-resembling decorations that may be applied to the cylinder, though not shown in the drawings, include lines of shading to resemble fiuting, either concave or convex, straight or spiral, to make the package resemble one of the several forms of fluted ca'ndles known in trade. Such shading may constitute the sole decorations of the cylinder orxmay -bezaddition to the candle-drip decorations described. above.
This completes the description of one embodi- .ment of the package of the present invention. It will be'readilyapparent that such :packagaibesides being novel andattractive. inappearance, permits the display and examination of the contents while .at 11118531113 time protecting and preserving the :same against the effects of handling and of the exposure to the atmosphere. .It will likewise :be apparent that such packagepermits economy in display space, :in handling byisal-espeople and .customers and in Wrapping the goods-for the customer.
It willalso be apparent that manymodifications and variations :in the packageof the presentinvention :may be made in accordance with {the principles thereof hereinabove ,set forth by any one skilled in the art, Without the use .of :anyinventive ingenuity. .The protection of .the patent laws is therefore requested ;;Eor :any and allsu'oh modifications :and variations of the invention thatmay be made Within the spirit :thereof and within thescope of the claims hereto appended.
