PATENT OFFICE.
ILLINOIS, ADMINISTRATOR OF JOHN PANTALOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 249,596, dated November 15, 1881. Application filed June 14, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that JOHN Honenn Done- LASS, deceased, late of Calhoun county, Illinois, did, during his life-time, inventa new and useful Improvement in Pantaloons; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a frontelcvation of a pair of pantaloons, with the front part of onelcg turned up to show theimprovement. Fig. 2 is a crossa rear elevation of one leg of a pair of pantaloons, with the upper end of the back part of the leg removed to show the improvement.
The object of the invention is to retain the original shape or form ot' pantaloons at the knees, where they are liable to bag or be drawn out of shape by the knee in bending the leg, and remain in that position.
Heretofore short pieces of rubber or other elastic material have been placed on the inside of pantaloons at the knees to attain this result.
The invention relates to improvements in thisconstruction; and it consists in securing by heat or adhesive solution, or otherwise, a thin be f rubbercloth forming a ring to the inside of bothlegsofjthe pantaloons at the knees, sothat the rin of rubb orelasc yaro nd t s at the knees and be secured thereto. The inner surface of the rubber or elastic material is also lined with tissuepaper or other material to protect the rubber and prevent it from; adhering or sticking. By this construction it will be seen that when the leg of thepantaloons is bagged outwardly by the pressure of the knee uponit, the pressure uponthe rear part of the pantaloons, opposite the knee, will be resisted by theelastic material or ring, and that the originalform of the pantaloons will be more readily. restored when the pressure of the knee is removed than in the case in which a short piece of elastic material is applied to the inside of the pantaloons, over the knee.
- In the accompanying drawings, a represents the front of one of the legs of a pair of pantaloons, totheinsideof thecloth of which, over or 0 .result attained being that when the leg of the pantaloons is bagged outwardly by the pressure of the knee upon it, the original form of the pantaloon-leg at the knee will be restored, when the pressure of the knee is removed, by the elastic force of the rubber or other elastic 6 material employed. 7
The device, constructed and arranged as described, may also be applied to coat-sleeves at their elbows, in the same manner and with the same results as when applied to pantaloons at their knees.
What I claim as the invention isi 1. Pantaloons' provided with rings 1) of rub ber cloth, extending entirely around the in.-' side of the legs at the knees, and secured there- 7 5 to, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. Pantaloons provided with rings 11 of rubber cloth, lined on their inner faces with a protectin g material and extending entirelyaround the inside of thelegs at the knees and secured thereto, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
