Description

(No Model.) I
J. H. MCGRADY.
TROUSERS. No. 540,182. Patented May 28, 1895.
\XATNESEESI INVENTEIR:
NITED STATES JOHN H. MOGRADY, BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TROUSERS.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. MOGRADY, of
Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of' Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide certain improvements in trousers, whereby stretching of the cloth and consequent bagging at the knees may he reduced to the minimum, and the creases at the front and back of the legs preserved so as to give the creased eifect which is at the present time considered desirable.
The invention consists in trousers creased centrally between the side seams and having cords arranged in said creases and extending along the line thereof, said cords being secured to the trousers and maintaining the creases and preventing stretching of the cloth at the knees.
Of. the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a pair of trousers provided with my improvement. Fig 2 represents a transverse section of one of the legs.
The same letters of reference indicate the same parts in both the figures.
In carrying out my invention, I form the usual central creases between the side seams of each leg of a pair of trousers and place in 'said creases on the inner surfaces of the legs cords a a extending preferably the entire length of the legs. The cords may be of any suitable material which will be sufficiently flexible and will not be liable to stretch. The
a i SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,182, dated May 28, 1895.
Appli a i n fil d January 13, 1894- Serial No- 49 /72 i (No model.)
cords are securely attached to the cloth, by stitches or otherwise. I prefer to make the cords of such small size that they will lie readily in the creases, and will by their presence in said creases prevent the latter from being flattened out or obliterated.
I have found by practical tests that the cords, applied as described, preserve the form of the creases and prevent the trousers from bagging at the knees.
The cords at the back sides of the legs materially aid in preserving the form of the trousers at the knees, by preventing the rear sides of the knees from wrinkling inwardly, and maintaining the original shape of the trousers leg.
It is obvious that the cords a a at the front of the legs perform a useful function without the back cords a a. not limited to the use of two cords in each leg.
I claim- As an article of manufacture, trousers having the legs creased centrally between the side seams and cords arranged in said creases and extending along the line thereof and secured therein, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 8th day of January, A. D. 1894..
JOHN H. MCGRADY.
