SKIRT-BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,382, dated September 5, 1899.
Application filed April 14:. 1899. Serial No 713.025. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON M. WEBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt -Binders, of which the following is a description,referen ce being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in skirt-binders or edge-protectors; and the ob ject is to provide a binding and facing combined which will be sightly, durable, and give a finished appearance to the skirt.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure 1 is a front view of a fabric provided with my improved facing and binding, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
In the drawings, A represents a portion of the skirt or other material to be bound, and B represents a facing formed of waterproof or other material, either bias or straight out, this facing being folded over at its lower end and inclosing a cord at, as shown in the drawings, or the lower end may be simply rolled to form upon itself a cord, thus forming a stiffened portion or bead at the fold, and this element I term a stiffener. I then sew onto the inside lower edge a narrow woven fringe O of the kind known as brush-bindings, this fringe being sewed on the inside of the facing so that its lower edge projects slightly below the finished edge of the facing, so that the most conspicuous part of the combined facing and binding is the finished edge, as shown at b; but the wear is taken up by the fringe or brush-binding instead of by the finished edge.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, an edgeprotector for garments, comprising a strip of material provided with a folded lower portion forming a facing said folded lower portion embracing a stiffener and a continuous series of brush-loops secured to the strip at one side thereof with the lower edge of the brush portion extending below the fold in the strip, as and for the purpose described.
