Description

Nov. 29, 1949 A, w] KING 2,489,295
CARTON CARRIER Filed 001;. 22, 1947 II IIIIII INVENTOR. Aria Wz'ZZzZzm Kz'n Patented Nov. 29, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a carton carrier.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a carton carrier which can be folded about a central hinge connection between the two parts thereof so that the portions adapted to pierce the carton will be aligned and made parallel to one another so that they can both be extended into the carton at the same time and wherein thereafter the parts can be separated so that the piercing portions will be extended from the central hole in opposite directions therefrom and under the carton material.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a carton carrier which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to insert into the carton and eflicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in con-- nection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the carton carrier with the parts extended underneath the top of the carton.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the carrier.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the carrier when the parts have been folded together and in preparatory for insertion into the carton.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the carrier with the parts folded together.
Referring now to the figures, l represents a carton having a top portion H. A carrier indicated generally at I2 is formed according to the present invention for extension under the top portion H for the purpose of carrying the carton. This carrier includes parts l3 and I4 formed of wire and hinged together by joined loop portions as indicated at 15 and by the extension of a coil portion l6 over a straight portion I! of one part. portion [6 and laterally is a piercing portion l8 and from the straight portion I! of the one member there is extended a piercing portion l9.
To insert the carrier beneath the top portion I8, the parts are folded together in the manner as shown in Fig. 3 and the piercing portions 58 and I9 of the parts will lie beside one another and the hole as shown at 2| is formed by the piercing portions. After the piercing portions have been inserted under th top portion ll of the carton to the full extent, the parts 13 and M can be Extending from the coil hinged apart so that the portions l8 and I9 will extend in opposite directions from the hole 2|. If it is desired to remove the carrier l2 from the carton, the parts will again be hinged together and the carrier removed in the reverse manner.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A carton carrier comprising a pair of U- shaped parts hinged together at their respective free ends, each of said parts having a piercing portion formed by extensions on one of said ends of each part, the parts when hinged together to overlie one another having the piercing portions extending in side by side relationship so that they may be extended together into the carton and under the top portion thereof, said parts being adapted to be hinged apart after being inserted in the carton to spread the piercing portions.
2. A carton carrier comprising U-shaped handle parts, each of said U-shaped handle parts having a top and a bottom extending portion and a cross or base portion joining an end of each top and bottom portion, the top portion of each part having a loop and the loops of the parts being hinged together, the bottom portion of one part having a straight downwardly extending portion with a piercing portion extending laterally therefrom, the bottom portion of the other part having a coil portion extending about the straight portion of the one part and a piercing portion extending from the coil portion whereby the parts can be hinged to overlie one another and the piercing portions thereof extended in side by side relationship for insertion into the carton.
