This invention relates to bottle supporting devices, and more particularly to a device for supporting a nursing bottle either in a position to facilitate feedin an infant or in a safe storage position.

When feeding an infant by means of a nursing bottle, it is customary either to hold the child in ones arm or lap, in which case the person feeding the child can direct the nipple to the babys mouth, or to place the child on a suitable support, such as a bed, and arrange the bottle beside the child in a manner to enable the child to reach the nipple. In the former case, the substantially undivided attention is required of the person holding the child thereby frequently imposing hardships on a busy mother, for example. Where the child is laid down on a bed or the like and the bottle is propped up before it, usually with the aid of a pillow or folded blanket, so that the busy mother may be free to give some attention to her many other duties, the bottle frequently slips out of place with resuting annoyance to both child and mother. Moreover, in the latter case, the nipple is usually brought into contact with other objects which render it no longer sterilized. Neither of these methods, then, is entirely satisfactory, and especially so the latter one.

To remedy the difliculties involved in the second case, various bottle holding devices have been proposed heretofore. So far as I am aware, however, none of these has proven suitable for one reason or another. to fulfill adequately the intended purpose; some are quite complicated and expensive; and some have still other objectionable features.

The primary object of my invention is to provide an improved supporting device for nursing bottles which will be free from the aforementioned objectionable features of prior art bottle holders.

More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide an improved nursing bottle holder which will support the nursing bottle in proper position, both as to height and angle, for suitably feeding an infant.

Still a further object of my invention is to provide an improved nursing bottle holder in which a bottle may be mounted for safe transportation or storage without endangering either ,the bottle or its contents.

In accordance with my invention, the improved bottle supporting device comprises a base of such dimensions that it cannot be tipped or tilted readily, even when a bottle is mounted on the device, the base carrying a pair of relatively adjustable, upright clamping members between which the'bottle may be clamped at child. Preferably, one of the upright members is adjustable on the base relative to the, other upright member so that the spacing between said .members can be varied to accommodate bottles of different diameters or widths. Also, the other upright member is preferably tiltably mounted for slight tilting movement relative to the first mentioned upright member whereby it can be brought into suitable bottle clamping re upright members furthermore preferably extend above the base a distance greater than the height of a bottle and its nipple whereby the bottle may be received therebetween in upright or standing position. Thus, the bottle can be stored away safely for transportation without danger of its tiltingover and breaking or losing its contents.

The novel features that I consider characteristic of my invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its organization and method of operation, as well as additional objects and advantages thereof, will best be understood from the following description of one embodiment thereof when read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a nursing bottle supporting device constructed according to my invention and showing a bottle mounted thereon for storage or transportation,

Referring more particularly to the drawing in which similar. reference characters .designate correspondmgiparts throughout, thereis shown a base I of large enough area so that it cannot be tipped or tilted easily about an edge thereof and provided with a pair of parallel slots 3. Rigidly secured to'the block '5 is an upright clamping member I3, themember I3 being held on the block 5 in any suitable manner, as-by means of screws I5. A similar, upright memher I] is hingedly secured to the block-.9 in any suitable manner, being arranged'in opposed relation'to'the upright member I3. In theillustrated embodiment, the hinge connection between the upright member II, and its mounting block 9 is effected by means of a pair ofscrews I9 which are received in slots I8 in the member I'Land are screwed into the block '9, the slots i8 being of slightly larger dimensions than the diameter of'the screws I9. Thus, the member I! can'tilt slightly relative to the member I3 whereby it canbe'broug ht into bottle clamping relation with the member I3.

Secured to the upper end of the clamping member I3 is an elongated bolt 2I1which extends through an opening 23 in the clamping member IT. A nut in the form of a knob.25 is threaded onto the protruding end ofthe bolt :2I and, when brought up against the member I'I, forces the latter to'tilt toward'the member I3 to thereby clamp therebetween a nursingbottle 2'I. If desiredgthemembers I3 and IT may be made of somewhat flexiblematerial and advantage taken of 'the'resilience thereof to aid in clamping the bottle 'between them. For this purpose, the members I3 and I I, as well as the base I, maybe made ofmetaL-wood, plastics, many other suitable material. In any-event, it 'will be seen that the bottle '21 canbeplacedbetween the upright clamping members I3 and H in any suitable, angular position and at any height along the members-Hand II; asshown in Figure 3, to suit the needs and comfort of a baby who is to be fed, or it can .be placedupright on the base I and clamped between the members I3 and H, as shown in Figure l, whenthe bottleis to be stored away or when it is tobe transported'as -in an automobile,'for example. :Ineithermase, since the base rI has: a large area, it :cannot be tipped over easily, :and "therefore the danger of losing the-contents ofxthe bottle'orrof the baby pushing it to one side 'or tipping 'it over is practically eliminated. At-the same time, since the bottle holder-is; placedto one side of the baby, asclearly sh'owninFigure 3, the baby-hascomplete freedom of movement of its limbs and-head and its view-is-clear in practically all directions. This aids greatly ino giving the baby considerable comfort during thefeeding'process and in giving the mother peace of mindand freedom to attend 'to her other duties while the baby isrnursing.

Although I have shown vand'described but a single embodiment-ofmyinvention, it will undoubtedlybe'apparent that many other forms thereof, as well as variations in the one described herein, are possible. For example, if desired, both of the members I3 and I! may be tiltably supported on the base I, andbothoftheclamping 5 membersmay be made adjustable along th'e base I relative to each other instead of only the block band its member I3 for the purpose of varying the spacing between the members I3 and IT to enable them to accommodate bottles of different diameters. Again, other forms of manually operable devices for bringing the members I3 and El]: into bottleclamping relation may be employed .in placeof the particular one shown. Since my invention is susceptible to.a great variety of forms and expressions, I desire to have it understood that I do not intend to be limited except-insofar as is made necessary by the prior art and by the spirit of the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A device for supporting a nursing bottle comprising a base, a pair of relatively movable upright members supported on said base in spaced 'relation-to each other, the spacing between said mem bers and the height thereof being sufficient to receive a bottle in standing position therebetween, said upright'members'beingalso adapted toreceive 'isaid ibottle therebetween in any angular position relative thereto and with the .openiend.
