Description

Dec. 12, 1939. T. a. HARITOS HOLDER FOR NURSING BOTTLES Filed 001;. 21, 1938 INV 7195505 Ale/7'05 ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 12,
UNITED STATES HOLDER I! NURSING BOTH]! TasoooG.Barltol.NewYo|-k,N.Y.,a-|gnorto Baby Aids, Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporatlon of New York Application October :1. 1988, Serial is. 286,165
2 Claims. (cl. ass-m) This invention relates generally to improvements in supporting devices and has particular reference to a holder for nursing bottles.
An object of the invention is to provide a holder of simple and practical construction capable of being attached to a support such as a baby crib or the like and adjusted to various convenient positions wherein a nursing bottle will be held so that a baby may feed therefrom,
Another object is to facilitate the mounting of a nursing bottle between cooperating retaining members which are connected to clamping elements, adapted for attachment to a support,
by a metallic flexible tubing having sufficient degree of rigidity to maintain the retaining members and bottle carried thereby in various adjusted positions convenient to the child nursing from the bottle.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a crib or the like showing the holder of the present invention attached thereto and in operative position.
Figure 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the holder, partly broken away.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-4 of Fig. 2. and,
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In its preferred form, the invention is shown as comprising a pair of cooperating clamping members I and 6 consisting of elongated plates adapted to be disposed, for example, on opposite sides of the spaced, vertical rods or strips of a baby crib or bed I. The two members 5 and 6 are secured together by bolts and wing nuts 8 and in order to prevent marring of the surfaces of the elements of the crib to which said members are attached, the inner surfaces of the latter may be lined with corrugated strips 9 of rubber or like material.
The holder further comprises two cooperating bottle-retaining members It and H, preferably made of metal and of arcuate formation. Each member is substantially semi-circular in form so that the two combine to embrace the body of the nursing bottle I2 at its bottom portion so as to leave the nipple of the bottle fully exposed. The members in and II are hingedly connected as at 13 and the inner surfaces thereof are lined with cushioning strips ll similar to the strips 9. Clamping means are provided for securing the members It and llin operative position about the bottle. Such means comprises an arm ll pivoted at It to the member II at a point sub- 5 stantially diametrically opposite the hinge l3, and the free end of said arm I! carries a pivoted locking member I! one end of which is engageable with the detent ll carried by the member Hi, When so engaged, and rocked to the po- 10 sition of Fig. 4, the locking member ll acts to draw the members Ill and II tightly about the bottle and thus secure the latter in position between said members.
The member ID is provided with a sleeve ll 15 in which is secured one end of a length of metallic tubing 20 having the characteristic of being flexible so that the same may be variously bent to position the bottle l2 conveniently to the baby lying in the crib I; and at the same time 20 the tubing 20 has suiilcient rigidity to properly support the bottle in any adjusted position thereof without the necessity of holding said bottle.
Provision is made for detachably connecting 25 the tubular supporting member 20 to the clamping member 5 so that said supporting member, with the bottle, may be removed from the operative position thereof. For this purpose, the
plate 5 has secured to its outer surface a bracket 30 2| the major portion of which is offset from said plate to provide a socket, and said bracket has formed therein a vertically extending slot 22 closed at one end and open at the upper edge of said bracket. Carried by the end of the support- 35 ing element 2') remote from the members l0 and H is' a plate 23 adapted for insertion into the socket formed by the plate 5 and bracket 2|. When so inserted, the adjacent end of the supporting element 20 is received in the slot 22 and 40 rests upon the closed end thereof which thus provides an additional support for the member 20. In order to prevent accidental dislodgment of the plate 23 in the bracket 2|, a pin 24 may be attached to the plate 5 by a small chain 25 45 or other flexible member and when said plate 23 is in position in its socket said pin may be inserted through said plate and into the plate 5 at a point between the open end of the slot 22 and the supporting member 20. With the pin 50 thus in position the plate 23 will be prevented from being accidentally displaced relative to the plate 5.
What is claimed is:
1. A holder for nursing bottles comprising, in 66 combination, cooperating clamping members for attaching the holder to a crib or the like, a bracket secured to one of said members in spaced relation thereto so as to combine therewith to iorm a socket, said bracket having a slot therein provided with a closed and an open end, a semirigid tubuiar'supporting element having a plate at one end engaged in said socket with the adjacent portion or said element projecting through said si'ot and resting upon the closed end thereof, cooperating bottle-retaining members carried by said supporting element and pivotally connected to each other, said retaining members combining to embrace saidbottle, and
clamping means (or securing said retainin members in operative position about said bottle. 2. A holder for nursing bottles comprising, in combination, cooperating clamping members for attaching the holder to a crib or the like, a bracket secured to one of said members in spaced relation thereto so as to combine therewith to iorm a socket, said bracket having a slot therein provided with a closed and an open end, a semirigid tubular supporting element having a plate at one end engaged in said socket with the ad- Jacent portion of saidelement projecting through said slot and resting upon the closed end thereof, cooperating bottle-retaining members carried by said supporting element and pivotaliy connected to each other, said retaining members combining to embrace 'said bottle, clamping means for securing said retaining members in operative position about said bottle, and a locking pin insertible into said plate through said slot between the open end thereof and the adiacent portion of said tubular supporting element.
