This invention relates to a collapsible seat for children. v
An object of this invention is to provide a seat for children which can be clamped onto a table so as to support a child close to an edge oi the table at such a height as to enable the child to eat from the table top.
Another object of this invention is to provide a seat of this knd which can be collapsed to small size so that it can be conveniently stored for transportation.
A further object of this invention is to provide a collapsible seat of this kind which can be made at small cost, and is also adjustable so that a child can be conveniently adjusted with respect to the table top.
With the above and other objects in view, our invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specication, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a detailed side elevation, partly broken away and in section, of a collapsible seat constructed according to an embodiment of this invention:
Figure 2 is a plan view of the seat.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral lil designates generally the top of a table r other suitable support on which the collapsible seat to be hereinafter described is removably mounted. A seat, generally designated as ll, is formed oi a pair of parallel bars l2 which are secured to the lower side of a board or seat member I4 by means 0f fastening devices i3.
A back member generally designated as l5 is hingedly secured to the seat ll, and comprises a pair of obtusely bent bars i6 having secured thereto a back element ll', the latter being secured to the bars l 6 by fastening devices i8. The lower ends of the obtuse back supporting bars I6 are secured to upper and rearwardly extending extensions I 9 by hinge members 22. The back I5 when in collapsed position is adapted to be disposed as shown in dotted lines as shown in Figure 1.
The forward ends of the lower bars l2 are bent at right angles as shown at 2l, and the forward extensions 2| are secured in vertically adjusted position to vertical supporting bars 22 by means of securing members 23. The upright supporting bars 22 are formed with spaced opening 24 through selected ones of which the fastening members 23 are adapted to engage. The upper ends of the supporting bars 22 are bent forwardly at right angles as shown at 25 to thereby form xed clamping jaws for engagement on the upper side of the table top il). The movable or adjustable jaw 25 is carried by a screw 2l which is threaded through an arm 28 formed with a loop 35 adjustably engaging the supportr 22 and adapted upon slight tilting of arm 23 to lock arm 28 in vertically adjusted position on bar 22. The jaw 26 is engageable against the lower side of the top lll for removably clamping the suppoitinsl bars 22 onto the table top lil. By means of the adjustment of bar 28 the clamp may be adjusted to engage various thicknesses of table tops.
In the use and operation of this seat structure, the supporting bars 22 are clamped to the table top with the bars 22 in depending relation. The lower seat bars l2 are vertically adjusted relative to the supporting bars 22 by the screws 23. The back i5 may be swung upwardly to an upright position as shown in Figure 1, and a'small child may then be seated on the Seat member lli with the childs legs depending between the supporting bars 22.
With a collapsible seat as hereinbefore described a child may be positioned adjacent an edge of a table such as a picnic table or the like, and the child may be Supported in a convenient position for eating from the top of a table. This seat being collapsible can be placed in a small space so that it can be conveniently carried and can be set up for operation without the use of tools.
What is claimed is:
A collapsible seat comprising a pair of horizontally disposed parallel bars, a seat member Xed to said bars, a pair of back bars hingedly secured to said rst named'bars, a back member secured to said back bars, a pair of vertical supporting bars, means adjustably securingsaid l'irst named bars to said supporting bars, and clamping means carried by said supporting bars for clamping the latter to a support.
