Description

Nov. 30, 1965 M. DOSS, SR
I REVERSE SUN DECK CHAIR Filed Feb. 23, 1965 INVEN TOR. M4 04/ M 00515 559 This invention pertains to chair structures and is particularly directed to a special type of chair known as a reverse sun deck chair.
One of the objects of this invention is to construct a chair in reverse fashion so that one sits on it facing the back of the chair and to provide suitable arm means on the back of the chair for supporting the body from the forearms and elbows as when sun bathing and facing away from the sun.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an improved reverse chair Where the back is used to support the forearms of the body and the seat faces toward the back of the chair.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a reverse sundeck chair in which an arm rest is provided on the back which is vertically adjustable in height relative to the seat.
It is also an object of this invention to provide in a reverse sun deck chair a narrow back by which the legs of the user may straddle the back while sitting facing the back of the chair and supporting his body by the forearms and elbows on an arm rest fixed to the front side of the back of the chair.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a front perspective view of a reverse sun deck chair incorporating the features of this invention.
FIG. 2 is a front elevation of a chair incorporating the features shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a left hand side elevation of the chair shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the upper end of the back and adjustable arm rest for the chair of FIGS. 1, 2 and 3.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention, there is shown a chair comprising a base frame comprising the side members 11 and 12, the rear tie member 13 and the front tie rod 14. Upstanding from the front ends of the side members 11 and v12 are the Widely spaced front legs 15 and 16. Seat support portions 17 and 18 extend convergingly inwardly from the tops of the front legs 15 and 16 and join with the front ends of the parallel horizontal seat support portions 19 and 20.
Parallel closely spaced upwardly and forwardly sloping rear legs 21 and 22 are connected between the rear tie member 13 and the rear ends of the parallel horizontal seat support portions 19 and 20. Connected to the rear ends of the parallel horizontal seat support portions 19 and are the parallel upwardly and rearwardly sloping back tent f ice members 23 and 24 which may be connected together at the top by the curved portion 25. A rearwardly facing form fitting seat 26 is supported on the portions 17, 18, 19 and 20 and rigidly held in place by suitable clamps 27 gripping the members 17 and 18.
The back 2344, FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, carries an arm rest 28 which may be rigidly fixed thereto by suitable supports 29 at the required height relative to the seat so that the forearms may be supported thereon with the user of the chair sitting on the seat facing the back with his legs straddling the back member 23-24 and rear leg 21 and 22.
In the modification shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the arm rest 28 has its support 29 carried on adjustable clamps 30 adapted to slide longitudinally of the members 23 and 24 and be clamped at desired height relativeto the seat 26 by operating a suitable clamping bolt 31 by the lever 32.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the appendent claim are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
-A reverse chair comprising in combination:
(A) a base frame,
(B) a pair of widely spaced upstanding front legs secured to said base,
(C) a pair of closely spaced upstanding rear legs,
(D) a rearwardly facing seat mounted on top of said pairs of legs,
(E) a pair of laterally spaced upwardly and rearwardly sloping back members fixed to said legs,
|(F) an arm rest located between said back and said seat,
(G) and means for slidably adjustably securing said arm rest to said back members for simultaneously varying the height and horizontal distance of said arm rest relative to said seat so that raising said arm rest moves it rearwardly away from said seat.
