, TABLE CHAIR AND DESK COMBINATION Filed Aug. 12, 1946 I l l I l Patented Jan. 18, 1949 UNITED STATES. PATENT OFFICE 2,459,257 CHAIR, TABLE, AND DESK COMBINATION Halbert M. Wood, Madison, Wis. Application August 12, 1946, SerialNo. 690,058
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combined chair, desk and table combination, the primary object of the invention being to provide a chair, table and desk combination furniture wherein the frame thereof comprises removable sections from which the chair or seat, and table or desk, may be readily and easily removed or replaced.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a sectional frame, wherein the sections are held together by a chair seat or table and desk top, novel means being provided for removably connecting the frame sections.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of a chair, table or desk combination constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof, a portion of the desk or table having been broken away to illustrate the adjusting means used in adjusting the top of the table or desk.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the chair, desk and table combination, comprises a frame embodying identical sections indicated generally by the reference character 5.
Each of these sections comprises a length of rod material, bent to provide base sections 6, the front ends thereof being extended upwardly as at 1 and rearwardly as at 8, from where they extend forwardly as at 9, the forwardly extended portion 9 being parallel with the base 6.
The portion of the frame section at the rear end of the base 6, extends upwardly as at l and forwardly as at H, and then rearwardly as at l2, the portions H and I: being disposed in parallel spaced relation with each other, the space between the portions H and I2 being equal to the thickness of the chair seat l3, which is adapted to be slipped therebetween.
A clamp indicated at H is secured l3 at each end thereof, the clamp l4 being designed to grip the forwardly extended portions l l of the adjacent sections of the frame.
The portion l2 of the frame section as illustrated, extends upwardly providing the back supporting rod [5.
It will of course be understood that two of these sections are required in the formation of the frame of the device.
The sections are held in spaced relation with respect to each other, by means of the back l6 which is provided with tubular sections I! that are adapted to fit down over the supporting rods l5 of the sections. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the sections of the frame at the rear of the device, will be held in spaced relation with respect to each other.
The reference character l8 indicates the desk or table, which is box-like in formation, the upper surface thereof being sloped downwardly toward the chair seat, to provide a comfortable writing surface.
Within the desk or table l8, is a tubular internally threaded member l9 which is secured at a point, intermediate the side edges of the desk or table.
Fitted within this tubular member l9, is a threaded rod 20 which is formed with a head 2| adapted to engage the undersurface of the hinged top 22 to elevate the top should it be desired to use the top as a table.
Secured to the undersurface of the desk or table l8, are horizontally disposed tubular members 23 that are held in position by means of the straps 24. These tubular sections 23 are arranged adjacent to the side edges of the bottom of the desk or table l8, and are adapted to accommodate the forwardly extended ends 9 of the frame sections, thereby providing a support for the desk or table.
In order that the desk or table l8 will be held against movement with respect to the frame of the device, the straps 24 as well as the tubular members 23, are provided with registering openings, adapted to accommodate the bolts 25, whereby the various sections are held together at all times.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have to the seat provided a chair, desk and table combination embodying a frame which is constructed of separable sections, the sections of the frame being held together by means of the desk or table top used in connection with the frame. It will also be seen that the seat, which is indicated by the reference character I3, is held between the portions II and I2 of the sections, will also act to brace the frame.
What is claimed is:
A combined desk and chair comprising identical frame sections arranged parallel to each other, each frame section embodying a length of rod material constructed with upstanding ends to form a back and then bent forward yatirig-ht angles therewith and ,then bent backward tin a U shape to provide spaced parallel members, a seat held between the parallel members of the frame sections, said parallel members frictionally engaging the upper and lower"surfaces of the seat, the rod at the lower reanendaaf' thequ shape then bent downward to form a rear leg for the chair, then forward to iorma floor-engaging section, then upward to form a leg for ,the desk, then forward and terminating in a horizontal 4 J section, a back member, vertical tubes secured to the back member into which the upper ends of the lengths of rod material are disposed, securing the back to the back section, the forwardly extended ends of the sections being fitted in tubes of a desk, securing the desk to the frame sections, at the front ends thereof,
