1 Claim. (01. 24-249) f The invention relates to a ranking device, and more especially to a utility holder. a
The primary object of the invention is the provision of 'a device of this character, wherein through the weight of an article placed therein such article will be racked, so that it will be hung in an orderly fashion, and handy for use, the article being held is relieved from marring, scratching or otherwise damage, and is susceptible of quick release.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein domestic articles, such as utensils, cutlery, house cleaning implements, kitchen wares, shop gadgets, and all typesof" handled appurtenances can be conveniently hung for ready service from a support, and without slipping thereof from place, the device being of a kind to support one or more articles at one and the same time.
A further object of the invention is the pro- Figures 8, 9, 10,11and 12, are companion views to Figures 1, 3,, i, and 6, showing fragmentarily articles held. H
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout'the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, particularly, Figures 1 and 2, A designates generally a por- I tion of a vertical support, such as a wall, for the vision of a device of this character, wherein the article held thereby is firmly gripped thereto and on the lifting of such article it will be automatically released from the device, the gripping of the article being also automatically effected.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, strong, durable, neat in appearance, readily and easily applied to a support therefor, conveniently operated, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred and modified forms of construction of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly broken away, of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged side edge view thereof.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing a modification, while Figures 4, 5 and 6 are similar views showing further modifications.
Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 2, showing a modified form of attaching platfi,
mounting of the device generally denoted as B, as constructed in, accordance with the invention. The device B, in this instance, comprises a base plate It], which may be of any desirable shape, and made from any. suitable rigid sheet-like material, it being flat, and at. its uppermost edge has cut and bent therefrom a pair of spaced out-'- wardly curled horizontally aligned pintle hinge sleeves or eyes II, and such plate is made fast in an elevated position to the support A by fasteners 12. Vertically swingable toward and from the plate 10 is a hinged part forming a holder, comprising in this instance, a pair of duplicated, reversely set, substantially E-shaped frames I 3 and [4, respectively, each having longitudinal bars [3' and It provided with a terminal hinge pintle or upper arm 15 journaled in its companion sleeve or eye II, and outwardly protruding spaced coacting gripping jaws, or arms, tines or the like It and it, these being covered with cushioning insulation coverings ll, of a selectedmaterial. The gripping jaws, arms, tines or the like 16 and it are parallel with each other and afford at the outer side of each frame, an open mouth area therebetween, so that an article to be held by the device B can be introduced between the jaws I6 and Hi, to be clutched thereby through weight and gravity action of such device for the automatic gripping and holding of the article in a suspended position thereby. The weight on the device B is brought about through the inherent weight of the article imposed thereon, and the latter when held will not become marred or scratched by the arms, tines or the like, through contact of the coverings H, as should be clearly obvious. The back or longitudinal bars I3 and I4 of the E-shape frames I3 and M are disposed in abutting relation whereby the hinge pintles or upper arms l5 of each frame are held in the sleeves l l without the need of additional securing means.
The lifting of the frame, when holding the article, or the latter itself, automatically releases the same, for the removal thereof from the device B.
In Figure 3 of the drawing, there is shown a modification of the invention, wherein the frame which is a substitute for the frames I3 and I4, is of substantially c-shape providing a. laterally open jaw I 8, having upper and lower gripping arms l8 and i9, and having a hinge leaf pintle shank l9, formed with lateral stud pintles 20, journaled in the eyes 2| on the base plate 2 2, which latter is made fast to a support.
In Figure 4 of the drawing, there is shown another modification of the invention, wherein the frame is of substantially S-foi'mation, with one terminal pintle 23, journaled in the eye 24, the frame being denoted at 25, while the base plate is generally indicated at 25 and having gripping arms 23 and 24'.
In Figure 5 of the drawing, which discloses a still further modification of the invention, the frame 26, is in the form of a flat leaf-like member, having a hole 21 therein, its edge being fitted with a cushioning ring 28, and this member is hinged at 29 to the base plate 29' for the device.
In Figure 6 of the drawing, the frame 30 is substantially similar to the frame [8, excepting that the lower gripping arm 39 of the C-formation is outwardly and inwardly curved while the upper gripping arm 3| is straight, this being a contemplated modification of the invention, the base plate being generally indicated at 31' for the device.
In Figure '7 of the drawing, there is shown a still further modification of the invention, wherein the base plate 32 is formed with an outwardly, upwardly and inwardly curled substantially U- shape pintle eye 33. The device B in its referred and modified forms or construction will 4 hold articles, each such as illustrated at 34, 35, 36, 31 and 38, in Figures 8 to 12 of the drawing, and for the automatic clutching and unclutching thereof, without damage thereto.
It should be apparent that when an article is suspended by the device B and approaches the base plate of such device this action increases the clutching activity of such device for a firm hold on the article hung thereby.
What is claimed is:
A handle holding bracket comprising a flat base plate for attachment to a wall, spaced pintle sleeves formed along the upper edge of said base plate in longitudinal alinement, a pair of handle holding frames, each frame including a longitudinal bar having a, series of spaced projecting arms, the uppermost arm of each frame being journaled in said pintle sleeves with the longitudinal bars of said frames in abutting relation to retain said upper arms in said sleeves, the
lower arms of said frames being adapted to receive therebetween the handle to be held.
