BROOM Herman.
To all who-an it why concern:
Beit known that I, PHILIP r zen of the United States, residing at East ity of uses.
,Northport, jinthe county of Suffolk and State of NeW-UYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom Holders, of which the following is aspeci- .fication.
This'invention I relates to broom handles or tool holders and the like and'more particorimpl'ement as the case may be.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a broom handle or tool holder supporting device in the form of a clamp which permits the handle to be readily inserted therein and frictionally held thereby and adapted to be released from the device against the resistance of a spring so that a convenient'and .highly useful article ofmanufacture is provided capable for a multiplic- Another object of my invention is the provision and construction of a tool holding device which may be stamped from metal, comprising a minimum number of parts, strong and durable, highly eficient in use, practical, easily manufactured and at a comparativel low cost, whereby its commercial possihilities are greatly enhanced.
I accomplish the above objects and others which will be more readily understood when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings showing a thereof and wherein;
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the device connected to a wall and supporting a handle.
Figure 2 is a view clamp itself.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the spring connecting portion of the clamp.
Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate correpartly in section of the sponding parts throughout the several views,-
5 designates in its entirety the attaching plate which is substantially rectangular in form and provided with apertures 6 for the passage of screws 7 whereby the device may e rigidly secured in horizontal position to a door or wall or ona workmansbench. The plate 5 is provided with an angularly disposed outwardly bent portion 8 of a .reduced width, being further provided with preferred embodiment ama filed April 7; 1923. "sem no. 636.5412.
I inwardly e'iztending ears 9. The. reduced L rrz, a citi portion'8 is-formed preferably integral with the outwardly curved portion 10 of the platewhich terminates in a lip 11 as clearly 0 shown by Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.
A resilientfy held curved plate or clam ing armj12 o a shape to conform with t e curvature of the portion 10 is rovided, said plate '12 having also 4 inw'ar 1y extending ears 13 which overlap the ears9 and are connected thereto by the rivet 15, a resilient spring 16 on the rivet and disposed between the ears 9 is provided, one end of the said spring bearing against. the plate 5 and the opposite end against the end of the movable plate 12 so that the clam is normally closed. 'It' willthus be seen t at when a broom handle or tool is pressed against the lip 11 and the lip 12 of the plate 12,
the said plate 12 will move outwardly against the resistance of the spring and consequently permit the insertion of the broom handle or tool as the case may be. On the otherhand, by forcing the handle outward- 8 lyagainst the resistance of the spring, the plate 12 will fly outward and consequently release the handle.
It will thus be seen that from the above construction, Ihave provided a highly efi- Q dent and very simple clamping device which consists. ractically of but four parts which can easi y be assembled and permits of the manufacture of large quantities at an extremel low cost.
Whi e I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various al-- terations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing as the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claimas new and desire to secure by United- States Letters Patent is 1. A handle or tool'su porting device comprising a plate attacha le to a wall or support, a curved arm formed with the' said plate. and disposed at an angle thereto, inwardly struck ears at the juncture of the late and arm, and a resiliently held clampmg plate cooperating with .the curved armto 'frictionally retain the handle or tool.
2. A handlev or tool supporting device comprising a plate ettaeheble to a well er euppem, a curved arm fermafl integral therewith and dlispoeed at em angle thereto, inwardly struck ears at the juncture of Qshe 5' plate and arm, a clamping arm eonformm to the shape of the first mentioned e? erm, e'ers formed'at the inner end of the meeeee damping e overlying the ears of the curved e, e rivet connecting the eeil ears end a spring on the n'ivet be normelly R0 mei n:ain= the clamping arm in its closed posmon.
In testimony whereof I n. m
