Description
Se t. 3, 1940. a. a. STEVENS- TROUSER HANGER Filed Dec. 1s, 193a Patented Sept. 3, 1940 3 Claims.
My invention relates to trouser hangers; and has for an object to provide means for quickly and conveniently hanging trousers by the cufi of the trouser leg.
A purpose of my invention is to provide a substantial, economical and practical trouser hanger by which ones trousers may be substantially supported by the trouser leg cuff while at the same time, they may be held in a position that will keep them neat and well pressed.
A particular purpose of my invention is to provide an economical and practical trouser hanger which may be quickly. and easily detachable from its hanging position and a number of pairs of trousers may be hung side by side with each pair easily accessible and easily removed, if desired.
I attain the objects of my invention by the trouser hanger described in this specification, recited in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein like reference numerals indicate like parts in the several figures;
Referring to the figures:
Fig. 1 is a perspective of my invention showing one unit of the trouser hanger in its supported position and showing the supporting bracket therefor in a cut-away to disclose the construction of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a topview of my trouser supporting arm.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the same, showing its detachable supporting position on a supporting bracket adapted to carry the hanger.
Fig. 4 is a perspective of the trouser supporting arm showing a modification of the springy, clamping portion of the arm.
Fig. 5 is a perspective of the supporting bracket adapted to detachably support the hanger arm.
Fig. 6 is a detail showing the supporting notches for holding the hanger arm.
Fig. 7 is a perspective showing the springy clamp members of the supporting arm made of two welded pieces instead of one bent piece.
Referring now to the details of construction of my invention, I shall describe the salient features thereof as I, make reference to the drawing.
For instance, the preferred form of my invention as will be noted in the drawing, includes a trouser hanger arm and a supporting bracket therefor.
I have found it to be very practical and convenient in every way, as well as economical, to provide as one of the forms of my invention, a trouser hanger l shaped to define a resilient arm for holding trousers suspended by the cuff of the trouser leg. This type of hanger arm has a pair of springy clamp members adapted. to extend out from its supporting position with each clamping member tending to urge a substantial resiliency toward the other.
Each of these clamping members of the trouser supporting arm is provided with an outwardly flared top edge t and 5 respectively and each having an outwardly flared free end B and i.
This trouser supporting arm is shaped at its supporting end 8 to define a rear terminal notch 9 adapted to detachably hook under supporting bar it of supporting bracket H which is integral with the engaging plates l2 and i3 by which the supporting bracket is secured to a Wall in a clothes-closet and the like. t will be observed that bracket H is made reversible.
The trouser supporting arm adjacent rear ter minal 8 is also shaped to define a second notch it adapted to engage the top and rear edge of supporting bar l5 which is parallel with supporting bar Ill.
It will be observed in Figures 1 and 13, for instance, that supporting bar l5 upon which the trouser hanger l is resting is forward of and below the level of supporting bar It in which position the trouser hanger I may be detachably supported in a horizontal position when in use. Supporting bars l0 and I5 are preferably made integral with supporting plates l2 and I3.
It will thus be noted that when it is desired to hang a pair of trousers on hanger arm I then the arm may be quickly removed from its supported position detachably held by bars I!) and l 5 and while holding the trousers upside-down the trouser legs may be slidably inserted between clamp members 2 and 3 so that the trouser cuffs l6 may rest upon the outwardly flared top edges 4 and 5 respectively in the substantial support of the trousers. After thus clamping the trouser leg between clamp members 2 and 3, then the hanger arm I may be again detachably hung in its supporting position between supporting bars it and It.
With this construction of my invention it will be observed that any number of trousers may be conveniently hung side by side upon hanger arms I up to the capacity of supporting bars Ill and it of bracket l I.
Having thus described the nature of my invention, what I claim is:
1. A hanger for trousers. comprising a hanger arm shaped to define a split bracket formed from fabricated sheet metal and the contacting sides of which are each provided with a resiliency tending to urge them to press together; said {)5 hanger arm having its split end open and its opposite end shaped to define a top terminal stop member notch and a second and spaced lower stop member notch near said top terminal notch and disposed along the bottom edge of the hanger, a supporting bracket for said hanger arm and provided with supporting parallel bars which are vertically and horizontally spaced apart in a position to detachably hold said hanger arm with the rear end of the arm under the uppermost supporting bar and with the lowermost parallel supporting bar beneath the hanger arm,
thus supporting the hanger arm by the principle 1 of a third class lever.
2. As a new article of manufacture a trouser hanger comprising a hanger arm shaped to define a flanged clamping arm formed from fabricated sheet metal, open at one end and shaped to define a split bracket throughout a greater portion of its length with the adjacent sides thereof springing inwardly with a substantial resiliency for the slidable engagement and support of a pair of trousers to be held by the cuffs of the legs thereof, a supporting bracket having terminal plates for the wall engagement thereof and having a pair of integral horizontally disposed parallel supporting bars which are connected with said terminal wall plates adjacent the lower front and the upper rear corners thereof respectively, thus spacing said parallel supporting bars apart horizontally and vertical- 1y, said hanger arm having its rear top edge terminal shaped to define a notch providing a stop member for contacting said upper parallel supporting bar; and said hanger arm along its bottom edge adjacent its rear terminal further shaped to define a second stop member notch for engaging said lower front parallel supporting bar and for thus holding said split hanger arm steady in selected positions of detachable engagement with said supporting bars.
3. A trouser hanger comprising a hanger arm shaped to define a split bracket formed from fabricated sheet metal with its adjacent sides each springing inwardly with a substantial resiliency for the slidable engagement and support of a pair of trousers, adapted to be held by the cuffs of the legs thereof, said resilient sides each having its forward end and top edge flared outwardly to provide convenient access with the edge of trouser legs to the space between them, a supporting bracket having spaced terminal wall plates shaped to define means for their attachment to a wall, a pair of horizontally disposed parallel supporting bars integral with said spaced terminal wall plates, one of which parallel bars is disposed forward of and below the level of the other, said split hanger arm having its rear supporting end shaped to define a top hanger arm terminal notch and a bottom notch spaced from the hanger arm terminal notch, each notch providing stop members, respectively adapted to detachably engage said upper parallel supporting bar and said lower parallel supporting bar for holding said split hanger arm steadily into selected positions of detachable engagement with said supporting bars.
