2 Claims. 01. 22348 This invention relates broadly to wearing apparel and provides a new and improved means for hanging a pair of mens trousers in such a way as to prevent wrinkling and creasing and to preserve the usual crease which is formed in the trousers.
The invention provides a means for attachment to a usual wire coathanger, on which means the trousers are supported by engagement of such means within the cuffs of the trousers, whereby the trousers are caused to hang vertically downwardly from the coathanger.
The invention is described in the following specification and is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a coathanger having thereon devices provided by the invention for supporting a pair of trousers;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the trouser supporting devices provided by the invention;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 correspond, respectively, to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and disclose a second embodiment of the invention, Fig. 6 being a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
In Fig. l of the drawings there is disclosed a usual wire coathanger 2 having a hook 4, a horizontal wire member 6 and downwardly inclined wire members 8, 10 connecting the parts 4, 6. Such a coathanger is conventional and when it is in use a pair of trousers is folded and draped over the horizontal member 6.
Means are provided by the invention forsupporting a pair of trousers on the coathanger 2 in a new and improved manner. These means provided by the invention comprise two devices constructed and adapted to be sup ported in spaced relation on the horizontal member 6 of the coathanger, and each having means for engagement within the cuff formed on each of the two legs of a pair of trousers. One embodiment of the means provided by the invention is disclosed in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and comprises a body member or block 20 which is formed as a rectangular parallelepiped having an opening 22 formed therein and extending partially through the block from one side wall 24 toward the opposite side wall 26 and being of sufficient width to receive the. horizontal wire member 6 of the coathanger. The upper surface defining the opening 22 has a V-shaped notch 23 therein extending from end to end of the body member 20 in such a direction that the horizontal wire member 6 of the coat hanger can be received in it when the block 20 is placed.
on such horizontal member. A set-screw 28 having head 30 is received in a threaded opening extending upwardly from the lower surface 32 of the block 20 directly below the V-shaped notch 23 and provides a means for attaching the block firmly to the horizontal member of the coathanger when the wire member is received within the aperture 22 and notch 23. Two inverted U-shaped wire members 40, 42 are supported on the block 20 and extend upwardly therefrom. The two free ends of each of the members 40, 42 are bent at right angles from the members and are received within openings formed in the parts of opposite side walls 24, 26 of the block 20 which are disposed above the slot 22, thus providing a firm attachment between wire members 40, 42 and the block 20 and holding the upright members in position.
In the use of devices according to the invention two such devices are attached in spaced apart relation on the horizontal wire member 6 by inserting the wire member into the apenture 22 of the blocks 20 and tightening the set screws 28 against the wire member 6, thus forcing the wire member into the V-shaped notch 23 of each block 20 and tightly holding the block on the wire member. In this position of the parts the invented U-shaped members 40, 42 will extend upwardly with relation to the horizontal member 6 and will be disposed on opposite sides thereof, each being in a plane substantially parallel to that of the hanger itself. The trousers may now be suspended on the devices provided by the invention by inserting the aligned, upstanding wire members 40 of the two devices within the inside of the cuff of one leg of the trousers and inserting the aligned upstanding members 42 of the two devices within the inside of the cuff of the other leg of the trousers, causing the two legs of the trousers to be supported by the four upstanding wire members 40, 42. If desired, the two supporting devices may be moved apart after the trousers are in place in order to bring them up tightly against the ends of the cuff parts of the trousers.
A second embodiment of the invention is disclosed in Figs. 4, 5 and 6. In this embodiment each of the two supporting devices is formed of a single piece of metal, plastic or other suitable material which is molded, cast, machined or otherwise formed to provide a lower body part 50 which is generally in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped having a cut or aperture 52 extending upwardly from its lower face 54 and which is of such width that it will closely receive the horizontal wire member 6 of a coathanger. Two spaced substantially flat members 56, 58 extend upwardly from the base member 50 and correspond in function to the members 40, 42 of the device disclosed in Figs. 1 to 3.
In the use of the form of the invention which is illustrated in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 the devices are positioned on the horizontal wire member 6 of a coathanger by frictionally receiving the member 6 within the apertures 52, after which the ends of the two legs of the trousers may be positioned on the aligned upstanding side members 56, 58 of the two devices in the manner described above in connection with Figs. 1 to 3.
While I have described and illustrated two forms which my invention may take, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that other embodiments of the invention may be made without departing in any way from the spirit and scope of the invention, for the limits of which reference must be had to the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination with a conventional triangular wire coat hanger having a horizontal wire member, means for supporting a pair of cuffed trousers on said horizontal member, comprising two substantially identical devices each having a body part having a recess therein receiving said horizontal wire member of the coat hanger whereby the two devices may be supported in spaced positions on said member, means for rigidly but releasably attaching said devices to said horizontal wire member whereby said devices may be moved along the horizontal member of the coat hanger relatively to each other and rigidly fastened in adjusted position to stretch the cuffed trousers hung on said device, each of said two devices having two members extending ,up'wardly therefrom which are spaced,.apart .,laterally of the general plane of the coat hanger and which-are adapted to be received within the cuffs of the two legs of a pair of trousers.
=2,,,AS.3'1 inew artiele of rnanufacture, a deviceiorattachment as one of ,-a,pai r of substantially identical de- :vices, ;to {the horizontal wire member of a conventional triangular wilfe-coat hanger, comprising} body part having an aperture therein constructed and intended to reeeiye the jhQI'iZOIItaI member of the coat hanger, a V- shaped tnoitehiormed in said body part adjacent said aperture :means assoeiated with the said body part to .force the/horizontal member of the coat hanger, when positioned within said aperture, ;into said V-shaped notch thereby. :to rriigidly but ,releasably attach said body part to Pthe horizontal member of the coat hanger, and two 4 spaced parallel members extending outwardly from the body member which are constructed and intended to exattached to the horizontal inember of a coat hanger to be received within the cuff part of a leg of a pair of trousers.
