Description

Dec. 31, 1968 E. I. GINTHER 3,419,239
BELT AND TIE HOLDER Filed Oct. 25. 1967 INVENTOR ELWOOD G/NTHER ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,419,239 BELT AND TIE HOLDER Elwood I. Ginther, 1666 E. Cheltenham Ave., Philadelphia, Pa. 19124 Filed Oct. 25, 1967, Ser. No. 678,049 3 Claims. (Cl. 248-215) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A belt and tie holder which is detachably secured to a wire clothes hanger and which has a split tubular portion engaging part of the hanger and a supporting portion having angularly disposed bar portions for carrying belts and hes.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the invention This invention relates to a belt and tie holder which is adapted to clip on and be used in conjunction with a common wire suit or clothes hanger.
Description of the prior art The previously available belt and tie holders have had many disadvantages. The most common disadvantages were that they were not designed to be used with regular wire hangers, were bulky, did not adequately retain the belts and ties placed on them, and were not capable of being readily transported.
The present belt and tie holder may be used with a variety of clothes hangers, is small, of light weight and can be carried in a suit pocket ready for use and a plurality may be employed for additional support.
Summary of the invention The principal object of the present invention is to provide a belt and tie holder that is portable and may be used with a variety of conventional wire suit or clothes hangers.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a belt and tie holder that is sturdy and of light weight.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a belt and tie holder that is easily and quickly attached and detached from a wire suit or clothes hanger.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a belt and tie holder that may be secured in a plurality of positions on the wire clothes hanger and in multiples.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims.
Brief description of the drawing The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part thereof, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a view in perspective of the belt and tie holder of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a vertical sectional view, enlarged, taken approximately on the line 22 of FIG. 1, and
FIG. 3 is a plan view illustrating the belt and tie holder assembled in a plurality of positions and in multiples on a conventional wire suit or clothes hanger.
It should, of course, be understood that the description and drawings herein are illustrative merely, and that various modifications and changes can be made in the struc- 3,419,239 Patented Dec. 31, 1968 Description of the preferred embodiment Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the belt and tie holder 10 is illustrated in FIG. 3, in various positions in which it can be mounted on a wire suit or clothes hanger 11. The hanger 11 is of conventional type used in supporting mens suits and coats and womens dresses, suits and coats and is provided with a cross bar 12, converging side arms 14 and upright connecting portions 15. The arms 14 are fastened togeether by twisting, as at 13, at the upper ends and a hook 16 is formed by the end of one of the arms 14 for suspending the hanger 11 in the unusual manner.
The holder 10 preferably composed of any preferred material, such as synthetic plastic, molded pulp or the like. The holder 10 has a cylindrical body portion 18 which has a longitudinal central opening 19 to receive the cross bar 12 or the twisted portion 13 when in use position. The cylindrical portion 18 has a transverse slit 20 therethrough with the slit sufliciently resilient to permit of opening along the slit 20 for mounting without permanent deformation or fracture. The internal diameter of the opening 19 is such as to engage the hanger 11 along the cross bar 12 or along the twisted part 13. The slit 20 permits of the cylindrical portion being assembled or disassembled to the hanger 11 at the desired location by being slipped thereon at opening available by spreading along the slit 20.
A supporting hook 21 is integrally attached to the cylindrical portion 18 of L-shape as seen in FIG. 3, and has integral bars 22 and 23 for supporting the ties and belts, dependent upon the orientation or disposition of the hook 21. The bar 23 is preferably substantially the same length as the cylindrical body portion 18 for multiple use.
In operation the cylindrical portion 18 is opened along slit 20, and slid over the twisted portion 13 or across bar 12 which is received in the central opening 19. The holder 10 may be positioned as shown in FIG. 3. as desired and with the bar 23 either horizontal to carry articles or vertical to retain articles carried on the bar 22. The slit 20 may be urged open and the bar 12 or twisted portion 13 withdrawn therethrough when disassembly is desired.
For multiple use the holders 10 can be assembled in a series along the cross bar 12 and either engaging or slightly spaced to aid in the retention of articles carried on the bars 23.
It will thus be seen that the belt and tie holder attains the objects of the invention.
I claim:
1. A belt and tie holder for use with a suit or clothes hanger which comprises;
a cylindrical mounting portion for engagement with a portion of the hanger and having a central longitudinal opening,
said cylindrical portion being provided with a transverse slit, and
an L-shaped hook carried by said cylindrical portion.
2. A belt and tie holder as defined in claim 1 in which said hook has arms at right angles, either arm provid- 3 4 ing a belt and tie support dependent upon its disposi- 2,605,000 7/1952 Tomarin 2111 13 tion on a hanger. 2,936,076 5/1960 Harris 211113 3.
