The present invention relates to a combination glove and handbag carrier.

It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide means affording the securement of gloves or like articles to a handbag and, with the latter, if desired, to a suitable support, such as a panel or a table top.

It is another object of the present invention to provide means facilitating the adjustment of the holder to the thickness of the article to be carried and secured to the handbag.

Still a further object of the present invention is to provide means ensuring inexpensive manui'acture of a holder of the aforesaid type, easy manipulation of the latter and enhancement of the aesthetical appearance thereof.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a compact holding device of the aforesaid character which requires only a minimum 01' space, is light in weight and may be made of stock material, stamped or cut to size, and which has further meanscontributing to firm retainment of an article, even of an article with a smooth and even surface whereby the latter is pinched between two members of which one is movable with respect to the other.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more fully described and the combination and arrangement of parts will be shown in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims which form part of the specification.

Fig. 1 is a side elevation view of a carrier made in accordance with the invention and seen in locked position.

Fig. 2 is a top plan view partly in section and taken along line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view as seen along line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a side elevation view of the carrier of Fig. 1 partly in section in open position but somewhat modified with respect to the carrier of Fig. 1.

Figs. 5 and 6 show two different positions of the carrier in locked and applied position as a glove holder and as a glove holder and handbag holder, respectively.

Fig. 7 shows a modification of the locking means of a carrier in somewhat modified form.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is shown in Fig. 1 a carrier I having a hook-shaped body II with a lower upwardly turned extension l2 carrying on one extremity of said body a hood-shaped rubber element I3.

Body I I has further an upwardly and sidewardly projecting extension I4. This hook-shaped body is preferably made fromstock material and is preferably rectangular or square-shaped in crosssection.

Adjacent the lower hook-shaped portion or extension I2 at I6 there is pivoted or swingably attached a transverse bar member I5. This member I5 and extension I4 of body II are provided with interengageable means. To this end, member I5 terminates in a reducedportion I! adapted for insertion in a recess or slot I8 provided in upper extension I4 adjacent the other extremity of the hook-shaped body. Another slot I 8a may be provided in the upper extension I4 to suitably adjust the transverse swingable bar member l5 with respect to body Bar member I5 is preferably, provided with undulations (or, if desired, serrations) in order to enlarge the surface of bar member l5.

It will be observed that the space 20 between hook-shaped body I I and transverse member 5 is somewhat wedge-shaped in order to facilitate insertion and retainment of a pair of gloves 2|, as seen in Figs. 5 and 6. -Fig. 5 shows gloves 2| held within the space 20 defined by hook-shaped body II and transverse member I5, the latter bearing on said body by engaging with recess I8. whereas Fig. 6 illustrates the transverse member I5 engaged in recess |8a to thereby more tightly press the pair of gloves 2| against the hookshaped body It may be readily gathered from Fig. 6 that as soon as handle 21 is gripped by the hand of a person, gloves 2| together with carrier II] will again be suspended by means of chain or tie means 25 from the bag body or handle 21.

It is to be noted that transverse bar member I5 has a cut-out at its lower end I9 and adjacent pivot IE to cooperate with a. slot |9a provided in hook-shaped body member I I. The upper end of transverse bar member I5 is provided with a handle or square head 22 which is perforated at 23 to facilitate securement thereto of said tie means or chain 25 having a chain lock 24 whereby the chain 25 may be closed in form of a loop at ring 26.

As can be further seen from Figs. 5 and 6 chain 25 may be used for attachment to the handle 21 of a handbag 30 so that ordinarily gloves 2| are carried by the hook-shaped holder II, while the latter is suspended by means of chain 25 from said handbag 30.

If it is now desired to employ carrier ID in accordance with this invention for suspension from a table top or shelf 3|, all that is tobe done is to bring the one extremity of body II with rubber hood I3 in engagement with the table top, as seen in Fig. 6, while the gloves 2I held between transverse member I5 and the remainder of body II and handbag 30 is suspended from chain 25. This chain 25 is connected to hookshaped body II through the intermediar of transverse bar member I5 which is pivoted at I6 and carries at its upper head 22 said chain 25.

Fig. 4 shows carrier III in a somewhat modified iorm insofar as the attachment of chain 25 is concerned. In this modification the transverse bar member I5 terminates also in a perforated head 22 and retains on upper extension I4 upon springy engagement of portion I1 with one of the slots I8 or IBa the chain 25, which is threaded on hook-shaped body II by means of its ring or link 26.

It may be readily seen that upon engagement of portion H with slots I8 or I8a chain 25 is retained on hook-shaped body II whil the aforesaid wedge-shaped space 2|] may be adjusted as to its extent independently of the chain link 25.

Fig. 7 shows further a slight modification of the locking means I'I, I8 heretofore described in connection with Figs. 1 and 3. Hook-shaped member I4a terminates in a wedge-shaped end 40 which engages the curl-shaped member 4| of transverse bar member I5a. Wedge-shaped end 40 of hook-shaped body extension I4a of carrier Ifla springedl engages curled end 4| and may be readily removed therefrom, as indicated in dot and dash lines. Curled or ring-shaped end 4| of transverse bar member I5a, in this instance, receives the ring member 2'6 of chain 25 as it is well understood from Fig. '7.

Although the carrier device has been shown and described to be manufactured from stock material, it is well understood that the shape and the contours of the holder for the articles can be changed if the carrier is manufactured with parts which are di stamped. Any suitable material, such as metal, plastic or plastic composition, etc., can be used for bringing about the coupling of one article, such as a pair of gloves, to another article, such as a handbag, and a balanced suspension of both said articles by means of the projecting extremity I3 from a supporting plate. To this end the carrier is so constructed that the point of gravity of the carrier structure when both the aforesaid articles are in engagement positions thereon, as seen in Fig. 6, and suspended from a table top 3I, remains always below the location at which the rubber covered extremity I3 is in contact with said table top.

It can thus be seen that there has been provided in accordance with the invention a carrier for a plurality of articles which'comprises a hook-shaped body, a member having a part pivoted to a portion of said body and springedly engageable with another portion ofsaid body to thereby retain an article within the space defined between said member and said body, said body having one extremity projecting beyond said member when the latter bears on said other body portion and tie means adapted to connect a further article with said body, said hook-shaped body including a hood-shaped rubber material covering said one extremity of said body and adapted for engagement with a support from which said body and said tie means may be suspended, whereby the articles or any other load are in balanced condition with respect to the location of contact of said body extremity with said support.

While several embodiments of the invention have been shown and described, it will be easily understood that the same is capable of modification without departure from the general scope and spirit 'of the invention as defined in the claims.

I- Iaving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:

1. A carrier for holding one or more articles comprising a hook-shaped body provided with one end for engagement with a supporting plate,

a transverse member pivoted on said body adjacent said one end thereof, said transverse member being removably engageable with the other end of said hook-shaped body, whereby a substantially wedge-shaped space is defined between said member and said hook-shaped body to thereby frictionally receive therein one of said articles, said one end of said body projecting a predetermined distance laterally and beyond said transverse member, and tie means connected to said body for attachment of another article to said body, whereby said one article may be held in suspended condition from said other article by said tie means or said one article and said other article may both be suspended by means of said one end of said hook-shaped body from said supporting plate.

2. A carrier according to claim 1, wherein said other end of said hook-shaped body is shaped to springedly engage a portion of said transverse member.

3. A carrier according to claim 1, wherein said body is provided with an upwardly turned extension terminating in said one end and with an upwardly and sidewardly projecting extension terminating in said other end of said body.

4. A carrier for selectively supporting one or more articles comprising a hook-shaped; body terminating in two extremities, a transverse member having one end pivotally connected to said body adjacent one of said extremities thereof and having another end engageable with said body adjacent the other extremity of the latter,

'said one extremity of said body being shaped to engage with a support, said other body extremity being provided with at least one recess for engagement with said other end of said transverse member and for removal therefrom, whereby a space is defined between said transverse member and said body to thereby receive therein one of said articles, and tie means connected to said body for attachment of another article to said body, whereby said one article may be held in suspended condition from said other article or said one article and said other article may both be suspended by means of said one extremity of said hook-shaped body from said support.

5. A carrier for selectively supporting one or more articles, comprising a hook-shaped body terminating in one extremity for engagement with a support, a transverse member extending across said hook-shaped body and being pivoted with one end to said body, the other end of said transverse member and said body being provided with interengageable means; respectively, whereby a substantially wedge-shaped space is defined between said member and said body when said other end of said transverse member engages said body to thereby receive within said space one of said articles, said one extremity of said hookshaped body being remote from said transverse member when said other end thereof is in engagement position on said body, and tie means associated with said body and adapted to extend substantially in the direction of said transverse member, said tie means being adapted for attachment of another article to said body whereby said one article may be held in suspended condition from said other article by said tie means or said one article and said other article may both be suspended by means of said one extremity of said hook-shaped body from said support.

6. A carrier for selectively supporting one or more articles, comprising a body provided with a hook-shaped end terminating in a free extremity for engagement with a support, a swingable member provided with a pivot, said pivot being arranged on one portion of said body, said member extending from said one portion toward another portion of said body to engage same, whereby a space is defined between said member and said both to thereby receive within said space one of said articles, said extremity of said body being positioned remote from the pivot of said member, and tie means carried by said body and arranged to extend remote from said extremity, said tie means being adapted to facilitate attachment of another article to said body, whereby said one article may be held in suspended condition from said other article by said tie means or said one article and said other article may both be suspended by means of said extremity of said body from said support.

A carrier for selectively supporting one or 6 more articles, comprising a body provided with a hook-shaped end terminating in a free extremity for engagement with a support, a swingable member provided with a pivot,'said pivot being arranged on one portion of said body, said member extending from said one portion toward another portion of said body, whereby a space is defined between said member and said body to thereby receive within said space one of said articles, said extremity of said body being positioned re-" mote from the pivot of said member, and tie means carried by said body, said tie means being adapted to facilitate attachment of another article to said body, whereby said one article may be held in suspended condition from said other article by said tie means or said'one article and said other article may both be suspended by means of said extremity of said body from said support.
