l The present invention relates to lip sticks and more particularly to lip stick cases for housing a 'plurality of lip rouge or li-p pomade members.

An object of this invention is to provide :a novel and improved lip stick case to contain :a number of lip rough members, any one of which may be selected and withdrawn in suitably mounted manner ready for use.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a li-p stick case of the character mentioned, of novel and improved construction, wherein the lip rouge member withdrawn for use, may be restored to its position within the case, and permit thereafter :the selection of any of the lip rouge members.

A further object hereof is to provide an article of the type set forth, having a single handle member adapted to receive any of the lip rouge members selected to be withdrawn from the case, Which handle will serve as the applicator.

Another object of this invention is to provide a lip stick container of novel and improved construction including a magazine to house a number of lip stick rouge members and an lapplicator handle adapted for receiving any of said rouge members thereon selectively, including means to effect proper mounting and thereafter, separation of the handle and lip rouge member.

Still another object hereof, is :to lprovide a lip stick container of the magazine type, of novel and improved construction, which is reasonably cheap to manufacture, easy 'to use, is efficient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed, which is permanently useable because -used up lip rouge members may be replaced with new ones, making this type of lip stick case adaptable to 'be of precious metals or at least trimmed therewith if desired, Iand is of such form to serve .as a handled pocket mirror if so preferred.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent !as this disclosure proceeds.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Fig. 1 is a pictorial view -of a lip stick case assembly, embodying the teachings of this invention.

In the embodiment of this invention shown in the drawings, the lcasing may consist of an open top can l5 having a cylindrical interior which is oommunicative with a cylindrical bore of what may be lthe interior of a tubular neck IB extending radially outward therefrom. The `bottom of said can l5 may have :an opening determined by fiange I5'. Interior said can, resting on said fiange l5', may be positioned .a mirror disc H, and so maintained by a downwardly flanged disc or plate I 8, which is provided with :a centrally inverted socket cup l8' having a central threaded hole to receive the reduced screw portion -IS' of headed screw l9, whose shank is'v indicated by the numeral IS". The plate l8 is snugly fitted in can l5.

Revolvably carried on the shank of said screw [9, is the magazine or socket wheel 20, which loosely fills the interior of the can member 15. Opening at the periphery of said wheel 20, are a series of equi-spaced sockets 2l, 2l' and 21", extending radially inwardly in the body of said magazine wheel, which sockets when wheel 20 is manually turned, .are successively in register with the interior of tubular neck IB. Any suitable means may be provided to maintain Vthe wheel ,20 at such registering positions, Vas for instance a spring pressed steel ball 22, releasingly in successive engagement in the sockets 23.

The lreduced neck '24' of handle 24, is of ciroular cross-section and is adapted to lbe easily, and yet snugly slidable and rotatable within the `tubular neck Ili. A screw 25 mounted on cap 26, extends longitudinally outwardly from the neck .24' and concentrically therewithl Said screw, .cap and handle are secured to each other in any suitable manner as shown.

A cap indicated generally by the numeral 21, has an heXag-onal, or :other non-crcular periphery at its open end, while the rest of its Wallis round; such being indicated at 27' and 21" respectively. A threaded hole '28, centrally in the base of cap 21, is adapted for engagement with screw 25 of the handle 24. A cup 29, positioned within said cap 27, providesa seat for a lip rouge or pomade stick 30, .and creates a chamber 29' within which the screw 25 may enter.

The magazine wheel 20 has-an .annular channel 20', .the walls 20" of which, receive snug-it be! tween them the fiats 21' of portion '21' of the cap 21; while round portion 21" fits snug in bore Sl; the lip sticks or rough or pomade 30, being housed within sockets 2I, 2l' and 2l", which sockets are preferably of slightly larger size than stick 30; and the rim of cap 21 sitting against :and stopped by the seats 32. Of course, every rouge or pomade stick 30 for use in this device, is provided with .a cap as 21.

Upon removal of screw l9, the magazine wheel 20 is lifted out of the casing 15, to be filled with as many assemblies shown in Fig. 6, as it is provided with sockets 2l, 2I' and 2l". When so filled, the magazine wheel 20 is replaced within casing [5, and secured with the screw l9, to maintain the assembly. Handle 24, is of course first withdrawn from neck l6.

Now wheel 20 is turned until steel ball 22 is heard causing a clicking sound upon entering one of the sockets 23. A cap 21 holding a rouge stick 30 is now in registering position with the opening in neck l6, so that upon insertion of neck 24' of handle 24 into said neck's opening, the screw 25, upon axial rotation of the handle 24, will become engaged in threaded hole 28, mounting the rouge stick 30 onto handle 24, in use assembly. Upon withdrawing handle 24 from neck IS, rouge stick 30 may be used in ordinary manner. Now, upon sliding handle part 24' into neck IE, said handle is axially twisted until the flats 21' again enter between channel walls 20", and the handle is further slid into the case until the rim of cap 21 rests against seats 32. So assembled, the device is carried in a lady's hand bag, and may be used as a handled mirror.

Should it now be desired to have another of the rouge or pomade sticks 30, mounted on said handle 24, then, without withdrawing the handle, it is revolved axially within neck IS until screw 25 is disengaged from rouge stick and cap assembly it originally carried. The handle 24, is now withdrawn from wheel 20 to be free to be turned to any other position where steel ball 22 enters a socket 23; thereby positioning another rouge stick 30 for mounting onto the handle 24 in the manner set forth.

.The rouge or pomade sticks 30 may be of several hues and chemical compositions respectively and for various purposes, cosmetic, medicinal or otherwise as for instance one of the s-ticks may be mascara. The wheel 20 may be of transparent plastic or other suitable material to render its contents visible. A brush 34 may be lncluded conveniently housed in handle 24, and in threaded engagement therewith as at 34' to permit withdrawal of said brush for use to smear the lips upon which stick substance has been applied.

This invention is capable of numerous forms and various applications without departing from the ess-ential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended and desired that the embodiment herein shown be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and that the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; reference being had to the following claims rather than to the particular description herein to indicate the scope of this invention.

I claim:

l.In an article of the character described, a member having an opening, a handle extending from said member, movably mounted at one end in said opening and removable therefrom, a magazine movably mounted on said member and provided with a plurality of sockets successively positionable opposite said opening upon movement of the magazine on said member, a plurality of elements, each adapted to have a lip rouge stick mounted extending therefrom; each of said sockets being of a size to house a stick extending inwardly from its associated element and means on the handle and each of said sticks adapted to co-operate for detachable engagement of said handle and an element at said opening, whereby upon such engagement, a lip rouge stick is withdrawable from the magazine, mounted'on the handle, upon removal of said handle from said openng.

In an article of the character described, a member having an opening, a handle extending from said member movably mounted at one end in said opening and removable therefrom, a magazine rotatably mounted on said member and provided with a plurality of sockets successively positionable opposite said opening upon rotation of the magazine, a -plurality of caps, each adapted to have a lip rouge stick mounted extending therefrom; each of said sockets being of a size to house a stick extending inwardly from its associated cap and means on the handle and each of said caps, adapted to co-operate for detachable engagement of said handle and a cap at said opening, whereby upon such engagement a lip rouge stick is withdrawable from the magazine, mounted on the handle upon removal of said handle from said opening.

A device as defined in claim 2, wherein the handle is axially rotatably mounted in the opening and wherein each of the caps is provided with a threaded hole, and wherein is included a screw extending from said handle towards the magazine, adapted to threadedly engage a cap upon axial rotation of the handle within said opening, when a socket and said opening are oppo` site one another.

A device as defined in claim 2, wherein the handle is axially rotatably mounted in the opening and wherein each of the caps is provided with a threaded hole, and wherein is included a screw extending from said handle -towards the magazine adapted to threadedly engage a cap upon axial rotation of the handle within said Opening, when a socket and said opening are opposite one another, and including means adapted to maintain each of the caps fixed against axial rotation with respect to said sockets while the handle is axially revolved.

A device as defined in claim 2, wherein the handle is axially rotatably mounted in the opening and wherein each of the caps is provided with a threaded hole, and wherein is included a screw extending from said handle towards the magazine, adapted to threadedly engage a ca-p upon axial rotation of the handle within said opening, when a socket and said opening are opposite each other, and wherein each socket is adapted to house the cap associated with the lip stick in the socket and wherein each cap and socket each have a non-circular cross section whereby the cap is maintained against axial rotation when housed in a socket.

6. A device as defined in claim 2, including means to determine the respective positions of the magazine where the sockets are respectively opposite the opening in the member carrying the handle.

In an article of the character described, a casing, a magazine wheel rotatably mounted within the casing and provided with a plurality of sockets opening at its periphery; said casing being provided with an opening success'ively registering with one of said sockets upon rotation of the magazine wheel, a plurality of caps, each adapted to have a lip rouge stick mounted extending therefrom; each of said sockets being of a size to house a stick extending inwardly from its associated cap, a handle extending from said member, movably mounted at one end in said opening and removable therefrom and means on the handle and each of said caps, adapted to cooperate for detachable engagement of said handle and a cap at said opening, Whereby upon such engagement a lip rouge stick is withdrawable from the magazine, mounted on the handle upon removal of said handle from said opening.

A device as defined in claim 7, wherein the handle is slidably and axially rotatably mounted in the opening and wherein each of the caps is provided with a threaded hole, and wherein is included a screw extending from said handle towards the magazine, adapted to threadedly engage a cap upon sliding and axially rotating the handle within the opening, when a socket and said opening are opposite each other.

A device as defined in claim '7, wherein the handle is slidably and axially rotatably mounted within said opening and wherein each of the caps is provided with a threaded hole, and wherein is included a screw extending from said handle towards the magazine, adapted to threadedly engage a cap upon sliding and axially rotatingvthe handle within the opening, when a socket and said opening are opposite each other, and including means adapted to maintain each of the caps fixed against axial rotation with respect to said sockets while the handle is axially revolved.

A device as defined in claim 7, wherein the handle is slidably and axially rotatably mounted within said opening and wherein each of the caps is provided with a threaded hole, and wherein is included a screw extending from the handle to- 'wards the magazine, adapted to threadedly engage a cap upon sliding and axially rotating the handle within the opening, when a socket and said opening are opposite each other, and wherein each socket is adapted to house the cap associated with the lip stick in the socket, and wherein each cap and socket each have a non-circular section whereby the cap is maintained against axial rotation when housed in a socket.

11. A device as defined in claim 7, including means to determine the respective positions of the magazine where the sockets are respectively opposite the opening in the member carrying the handle.

In an article of the character described, the combination of a magazine provided with a plurality of sockets; a plurality of lip rouge sticks, a plurality of caps, mounted one on the end of each of said sticks; each stick and at least a portion of its associated cap being housed in a socket; means on each of said caps adapted to maintain them fixed against axial rotation with respect to said sockets while so housed; a handle, a screw extending from said handle; each of the caps being I provided with a threaded hole for engagement singly with said screw, Whereby upon such engagement, a cap and its associated lip rouge stick is removable from the socket housing same, mounted on the handle.
