Description

Aug, 16, 1949. J. A. MINASOLA 2 4N593 MECHANISM FOR CONVERTING BOLT ACTION RIFLES TO PUMP ACTUA'IED RIFLES Filed Dec. 13, 1946 Patented Aug. 16, 1949 IMECHANISM FOR CONVERTING BOLT ACTION RIFLES T PUMP ACTUATED RIFLES John A. Minasola, Grand Rapids, Mich.
Application December 13, 1946, Serial No. 716,153
2 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to rifles and more particularly to the pump actuated breech bolt reciprocating mechanism thereof.
The primary objects of the instant invention are to provide a rifle having novel pump actuated breech bolt reciprocating mechanism for ejecting spent cartridges; to provide such a rifle whose breech bolt reciprocating mechanism is simple yet rugged and sturdy in construction; to provide such a rifle whose breech bolt reciprocating mechanism is quick and efiicient in use; and, to provide such a rifle whose breech bolt reciprocating mechanism is reasonably economical in manufacture.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a rifle provided with the novel pump actuated breech bolt reciprocating mechanism;
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational view showing the pump actuated breech bolt reciprocating mechanism in its partially rearwardly moved position;
Figure 3 is an-enlarged fragmentary side elevational view similar to Figure 2 but showing the breech bolt reciprocating mechanism in its fully rearwardly moved position for ejecting a spent cartridge; and
Figure 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring then to the drawing wherein like parts of the rifle shown are designated by the same numerals in the several views, the same comprises a conventional barrel I0, stock I I, trigger l2, reciprocable breech bolt mechanism 13, and cartridge emitting opening It through which the spent cartridge is ejected when the bolt mech anism is retracted.
The pump actuated bolt reciprocating mechanism Is for ejecting a spent cartridge through the cartridge emitting opening l4 comprises the manually operable longitudinally reciprocable grip is whose forward end is provided with a fixedly secured axially disposed member I6 slidable in a depending U-shaped member I! whose opposite inner ends are fixedly secured to opposite sides of the barrel ID and a rearward longitudinally disposed arm l8 pivotally connected at its rearward end to an L-shaped lever I9 is slidable between a pair of spaced angularly disposed rollers 20, 2| whose axles are secured to the stock II.
The breech bolt I 3 is oscillatable in ejecting a spent cartridge by means of a laterally projecting stud 22 which is secured adjacent its rearward 55 2,387,413
end and is adapted to ride in an elongated slot 23 in the rearward end of an L-shaped lever l9 whose forward end is pivotally connected to the end of the rearwardly disposed arm l8 whereby the rearward manual movement of the longitudinally reciprocable grip l5 from its position shown in Figure 1 through its position shown in Figure 2 to its position shown in Figure 3 rotatively retracts the breech bolt l3 ejecting the spent cartridge through the cartridge emitting opening M, and reverse movement of the lever grip l5 returns the breech bolt to normal firing position shown in Figure 1,
It will thus be seen that the rifle herein shown and described has novel pump actuated breech bolt reciprocatin mechanism for ejecting spent cartridges, is simple yet rugged and sturdy in construction, is eflicient in use, and is reasonably economical in manufacture.
While but one specific embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it will be understood that certain detailsof the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as the same is defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a rifle having a pump actuated reciprocable breech bolt mechanism, a longitudinally reciplocable grip, a stock, a pair of spaced guides mounted on the stock adjacent the rear end of the breech bolt mechanism, an L-shaped lever pivotally connected at its forward end to the grip and slidable between the pair of spaced guides and whose other end is inclined rearwardly and is provided with an elongated slot, and a stud projecting laterally from the breech bolt mechanism and riding in the slot.
2. In a rifle having a pump actuated reciprocable breech bolt mechanism, a longitudinally reciprocable grip, a pair of spaced guides mounted on the stock adjacent the rear end of the breech bolt mechanism, an L-shaped lever pivotally connected at its forward end to the grip and slidable between the pair of angularly disposed spaced guides and whose other end is inclined rearwardly and is provided with an elongated slot, and a stud projecting laterally from the breech bolt mechanism and riding in the slot.
JOHN A. MINASOLA.
