Patented May 10, 1949 UNI TED S TATES FATENT OFFICE PIVOTED BENDER WITH ABUTMIENT ROLLER ADHUSTABLY MOUNTED N VERTICALLY INCLINE!) BRACKET 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a metal bending machine, and more particularly to such a machine adapted to bend metal strips of varying form into arcuate or circular shapes.
A primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved bending machine, adapted to be utilized in bending bar or strip metal, in a relatively simple, rapid and efficient manner. An additional object of this invention is the provision of such a machine provided with an improved removable attachment whereby suitable metal strip forms may be bent.
Still another object is the provision of such a machine adapted to bend such stock in a smooth, even and relatively continuous manner, in such way as to obviate the possibility of breaking or buckling the strips.
Other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein there are disclosed various preferred embodiments of this inventive concept.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of one form of device embodying the instant inventive concept.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevational view of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged elevational detail of construction showing an adjustable attachment disposed on the table.
Like reference numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Having reference now to the drawings, there is shown at 26] a fixed table or work support, mounted on supporting legs 2|, and preferably of circular configuration. Mounted in the center of table is a revolvable plate 22 secured, as by a nut 23, to a rotatable drive shaft 24, driven from any desired source of power. A clip generally indicated at 25 comprised of a transversely extending member 26 having a slotted aperture 27 therein and a depending flange 28 is adapted to be secured to the plate 22, as by a bolt 30 engaging in a suitable threaded aperture in the plate.
An end of the stock is disposed beneath the clamp 25, the clamp being suitably adjusted by means of the bolt 30 and the slot 21. The shaft 24 is rotated prior to the clamping operations until it is adjacent the bending attachment to be described subsequently. The angle iron is disposed so that it contacts the roller 88 of the said attachment and subsequent rotation of the shaft 2 moves the plate 22 as well as the clamp 25 and the angle iron for the bending operations.
Angle iron may be readily bent utilizing the machine of the instant invention, by the use of an attachment disclosed in Figure 3. In this attachment a triangular support HI is secured to the plate 20, as by bolts H, and has mounted on the hypotenuse thereof a supporting bracket 72, adapted to carry a U-shaped clamping member 13 secured thereto, as by bolts M, the legs of the member '53 being provided with threaded apertures through which passes a threaded member '55 and provided with an operating knob '56, its extremity engaging an abutting shoulder ll of the bracket E2. The extremity of the bracket 72 has secured thereto, as by means of a bolt 18 and nut W, a roller 80, the periphery of which is beveled to form a substantially rightangled surface adapted to engage in the right angle of an angle iron 8 I As the operating knob i6 is rotated it pushes on the shoulder 11 thereby urging the bracket 12 downwardly. Since the bracket carries the roller 89, it may be adjusted with respect to the plane of the table 20 and also with respect to the revolvable plate 22.
Now, from the foregoing, it will be seen that there is herein provided a bending device, and attachments therefor, accomplishing all the objects of this invention and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
A bending machine for metal stock comprising a support including a table, .a substantially circular plate rotatively journalled on said table, a shaft secured to said plate and extending through said table for rotating the plate, means adjustably secured to said plate for attaching metal stock to the plate, an angularly disposed bracket secured to said table, a second bracket having a shoulder and a slot, a roller journalled on said second bracket adjacent said plate, a substantially U-shaped bracket, seated on said second bracket, pins secured to said angularly disposed bracket extending through said slot and clampingly engaging said U-shaped bracket, threaded means adjustably received in said U- shaped bracket engaging said shoulder for adjustment of the second bracket and roller to Number selected positions of proximity relative to said 3 3 429 p a 1,262,882 ALBERT E.
