Patented Apr. 12, 1949 OFFICE R E-PART QR W YEfa Giegerich, Los Angel a i assignor to AlaxTillo,'Beverly1Ilills,'Calif? If Application January 29, 1946, Serial No. 644,040
2 Claims.
My present invention, in its broad aspect, has to do with improvements in corsets for women whose lower hip parts are relatively large, and whose abdomen is quite prominent, it being my purpose not only to improve the fit of the corset, but give a slender and elegant appearance to the figure. My corset is of such length that it covers the lower part of the body, including the seat, necessitating the wearer sit on the corset, thereby preventing riding-up of the corset, and at the same time insuring comfort and freedom of movement.
In attaining the above and other equally important objects of my invention, I provide a corset in which each half of the corset is made up of three parts which include center panel -(Fig. 7), elastic panel (Fig. 6) and back panel (Fig. 5); the corset is fitted to the particular wearer along two seam lines, one for the abdominal fitting, and the other for the curve of the lower part to insure the wearer sitting on the corset. In assembling the parts of the corset, there are three important sections, namely: the waist line, the line of the upper hips, and the line of the lower hips, as well as the top of the corset and the bottom on which a wearer sits. The corset has a triangular gore in the front, and an open seam in the upper part is closed by a zipper.
The present application is to be distinguished from my co-pending application, Serial No. 644,- 041, filed on January 29, 1946, wherein I have provided a corset having four parts in each side and which corset is designed for women whose lower hips measure less than forty inches whereas in the present application I have provided a corset particularly designed for women whose similar measurement is more than forty inches.
Other and equally important objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description and drawings, and it is pointed out that changes in form, size, shape, materials, and construction and arrangement of parts is permissible and within the purview of my broad inventive concept, and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings, wherein I have illustrated a preferred form of my invention:
Figure 1 is a perspective view taken from the side, and shows the front of the corset;
Figure 2 is a side view;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a back view;
Figure 5 is one half of the back panel of the corset;
Figure 6 is one of the elastic sides, and
Figure 7 is one half of the front panel of the corset.
In the drawings, wherein like characters of reference are used to designate like or similar parts throughout the several views:
The front panel I, of which one-half is shown in Figure '7, has swept up bottom edges 2 to a triangular elastic gore 3. At each side edge of the front panel I is attached one edge of the side elastic panels 4 and 5, one of which is shown in Figure 6. To the remaining edges of the elastic panels is attached to the back panel 6, one half of which is shown in Figure 5.
Each of the panels has five essential areas, the top I, the area Ia between the top and the waist line 8, the area 9 between the waist line 8 and the line of the upper hips II], the area ll between the line II] of the upper hips and the lower hips I2, and the bottom area I5 between the line of the lower hips and the bottom edge I 6. In assembling the lines I1, I8 and I9 are followed for the waist, the upper hips and the lower hips; and lines Ila, I8a and I9a in trimming from the straight panels. In fitting the seam line 20 is used for fitting the abdomen, and the seam line 2| is used for fitting the curve of the lower part of the corset to force the wearer to sit on the corset. The seam between the top part of one front side edge and the adjacent edge of the elastic panel is open, and closed by a zipper 22, and garters 23 are attached to the front panel and side elastic panels. In Figure 5 the area between lines 24-25 serves for lacer space when desired. In line 26 when lacer space is not required the lacing area between 24--25 maybe reduced in accordance with the desire of the manufacturer and requirements as developed by the elastic used. In assembling the panels to form the completed corset, it is essential that special attention be devoted to waist line H, and 8. From the foregoing it is believed that the construction, operation and advantages of my corset will be apparent, but it is again emphasized that interpretation of its scope should only be conclusive when made in the light of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
1. The method of constructing a corset having each side formed of three vertically extending panels, of first dividing each panel into a top area, a waist line area, an upper hip area, a lower hip area and a bottom area and then shaping the sides of the panels with respect to the desired combined size of the respective areas.
to allow the wearer to sit upon the corset, side edges of the back and front panels and side edges. of the elastic panels being cut on lines generally characterising the form of the'wearen the-front panel being assembled to the side panels on angular lines representing the waist, and curved lines representing the upper and lower hip areas, and the side and back panels being assembled to each other on angular lines representing the waist, and curved lines representing the upper and lower hip areas.
VERA GIEGERICH.
