The invention aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a foundation Agarment including a fashioned elastic body part having secured directly thereagainst sets of ,y spaced elastic tapes for increasing the resistancef of the portion of said body part to which they are secured and acting as additional fashioning for the garment.
The invention also aims to provide, in a. manner as hereinafter set forth, a foundation garment including a fashioned elastic body part having se'- cured directly against the upper portions of the sides thereof spaced elastic strips disposed in a manner to act asl additional fashioning forthe garment.
The invention further aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a foundation garment including a fashioned body having elastic spaced means atvthe sides of the waist portion thereof for giving additional restraining and controlling power tothe garment.
v'Ihei-nvention further aims to` provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a foundation garment including elastic sides having'attached thereto elasticv strips extending from the front and to the back of the garment `for giving a waist line eifect,aswell1as for controlling the abdomen andside back.
The invention further aims' to provide, in a manner as hereinafter 'set forth, a foundation garment `with means which. are so constructed andgfarrangedy that when the garmentfis worn it will control the diaphragm,fwaist1ine andthe abdomen, as well as theA 'fatty tissues-ofthe Iside back muscle of the hip, resultingfinI th'e'vgarmen't being held firmly in place and .preventing it'fi'olnv riding up on the body lof the wearer.'` i v.

'I'he invention further aims to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, 'a foundation garment including means which are so construct- .ed and arranged that they act as an aid to a wearers health'by holding the muscles of the abdomen more firmly and rigidly in both the standlng and the sitting. positions without the need for the aid of an inner belt arrangement and which further automatically tends to hold the muscles of theI abdomenfrom sagging.
The invention further aims to provide, in a manner as' hereinafter set forth, a foundation garment with means which are so constructed and arranged that when t e garment is worn, ssue and muscle of the hip in a' rm position in such a. way that it will oftentimes reduce that fatty tissue, hold it, rm to that portion of the body and help to` relieve fatigue.
The invention further aims to provide, in a I manner `as hereinafter set forth, a garment which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly eiiicient for the purpose intended thereby, readily assembled. pleasing in appearance and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

The garment I0 as shown will be in the form of an endless girdle-like body part having a slit II in the upper portion of its back, a soft bendable flap I2 secured to the inner face of the back and extending across the slit and closing means I3 of known form for the slit.y
The garment I0 will be of a size to cover, with respect to the body of the wearer, the lower portion of the back, the waist, the front from the waist to the bust, the buttocks, the hips, the thighs and the abdomen.
The garment I0 includes a front I4, a back I5, a pair of `sides I6, I1. The garment is builtup from a foundation formed from a pair of oppositely disposed, fashioned, spacedwebs I8, I9 of elastic woven material of the desired length and which, when the garment is worn, are disposed on their lower lengthwise edges. Each web is folded inwardly upon itself. lWhen the webs are in foundation forming position, the ends of one web align in spaced relation with respect to the ends of the other web. Each web has secured to its upper and lower lengthwise edges respectively, upstanding and depending elastic straps 20, 2| extending from one end to the other end of the web. Each web and the upper elastic strap associated therewith has secured thereto concealed :dexible stay means positioned on the verl tical medians of the strap and web. The stay means extend from the upper edge of an upper strap substantially to the lengthwise median of 50 the web. 'I'he stay means slightly inclines rearwardly from its outer to its inner end. The said stay means secured to the straps 20 and webs I8,

The garment I0 includes a non-elastic front portion or part 23 of a length to extend from the outer lengthwise edgesof the straps 20 to I the outer lengthwise edges of the straps 2I. The

The front ends of the straps 2|' extend into and are secured to the lower parts of the sides of the front portion. The garment I0 includes a non-elastic back portion or part 25 of a length to extend from the outer lengthwise edges of the straps 20 to the outer lengthwise edges of the straps 2I. The back piece 25 is of greater width than the front piece 23. The back portion 25, centrally of its upper part is slitted and which provides the slit II. The flap I2 is secured atone side to the inner face of the back portion 25 adjacent one of the edges of the slit. The back portion 25 has arranged therein and secured thereto a pair of spaced parallel stay members 26 which extend from its upper end to a point in proximity to on opposite sides of the slit. Below the latter the back portion has a stay means 26a.
The rear ends of the straps 29 extend into and are secured to the upper parts of the sides of the back portion 25. The outer lengthwise edges of the straps 20 substantially align with the top edge of back portion 25. The rear ends of the straps 2I extend into and are secured to the lower parts of the sides of the back portion 25. The outer lengthwise edges of the straps 2l are substantially aligned with the bottom edge of the back portion. The rear ends of the webs I8, I9 are secured to the intermediate parts of the sides of the back portion 25.
The garment I 0 includes four sets of elastic members of tape-like form. The sets are ar ranged in pairs. Each pair consisting of a front set and a rear set. The members of one set of a pair are oppositely disposed withrespect to the members of the other set of the pair. The number of members of a set may be as desired, preferably three and are so shown. The members of one pair of sets are arranged in relation in the same manner as the 'members of the other set of the pair, but are oppositely disposed. The members of one front set are indicated at 21, 28, 29, those of the other front set at 30, 3|, 32, those of one rear set at 33, 34, 35 and those of the other rear set at 36, 31, 38. 'I'he members 21, 28, 29 are oppositely disposed with respect to the members 30, 3l, 32. The members 33, 34, 35 are oppositely disposed with respect to the members 36, 31, 38.
'Ihe members` 21, 28, 29 are oppositely ,disposed with respect to the members 33, 34,A 35. The members 30, 3|, 32 are oppositely disposed with respect to the members 36, 31, 38. The said sev` eral sets of members are secured to the inner faces of the webs I8, I9 and the manner in which the sets of a pair are disposed relative to each other, as well as the arrangement of the members of each set of the a pair of sets are shown in Figure 6. The member 28 is disposed between the members 21, 29.` 'Ihe member 3l is disposed between the members 36, 32. 'I'he member 34 is arranged between the members 33, 35 and the member 31 is arranged between the members 36, 38. -'I'he members of the front /sets align with each other. I'he Vmembers of the rear sets align with each other.
I'he members 21, 28, 29 at there front ends extend into and are secured to one side of the front portion 23 and at their rear ends extend into and are secured to oneside of the stay means 22. The rear ends of the members 21, 28, 29 are arranged in closed relation. The member 28` is horizontally disposed. vThe members 21, 29 from their rear ends extend at opposite inclinations throughout to dispose them diagonally relative to a web and whereby the spaces between member 28 and members 21, 23'gradually increase in width in a forward direction. lThe member 21 extends at an upward inclination from its rear end and the member 29 at a downward inclination bers 30, 3 I, 32 are arranged in close relation. The
member 3| is horizontally disposed. Theme mbers 30, 32 from their front ends extend atopposite inclinations throughout to dispose them diagonally with respect to a web and whereby the spaces between member 3I and members 30, 32
gradually increase in width in a rearward direction. The member 30 extends at an upward 'inclination from its front end, and the member 32 at a downward inclination from its front end. The members 33, 34, 35 at their front ends ex. tend into and are secured to the other side of the front portion 23 and at their rear ends extend into and are secured to one side of the stay means 22a, The rear ends of the members 33, 34, 35 are arranged in close relation. The member 34 is horizontally disposed. The members 33, 35 from their rear ends extend at opposite inclinations throughout to diagonally dispose them with respect to a web and whereby the spaces between member 34 and the members 33, 35 gradually increases in width in a forward direction. The member 33 extends at an upward inclination from its rear end, and the member 35 at a downward inclination from the rear end. The members 36,
31, 38 at their front ends extend into and are secured to the other side of the stay means v22a and at their rear ends extend into and are secured to the other side of the back portion 25. The front ends of the members 36, 31,38 are arranged in close relation. 'I'he member 31 is horizontally disposed. The members 36, 38 from their front ends extend at opposite inclinations throughout to dispose them diagonally with respect to a web and whereby the spaces between member 31 and members 36, 38 gradually increase in width in a rearward direction. The member 36 extends at an upward inclination from its front end and the member 38 extends at a` downward inclination positioned near the upper end of the front portion 23. The frontends of the members 29, 35 are arranged at the transverse medianl ofthe front portion 23. The rear ends of the members 30, 36 are positioned near the top of the back portion 25. The rear ends ofthe members 32, 35 are arranged at the transverse median of back portion 25.
The topA and bottom edges of the members of the said sets are secured throughout to the webs I8, I9 by -zig-zag stitching 39. The ends of the members of the said sets are secured to the stay means 22, 22a, front and back portions 23, 25 by suitable stitching. The elastic straps are secured tothe webs I 8, I3 by suitable stitching. The concealing means for the stay means 22, 22a are securedto the webs I8, I9 by suitable stitching. 'Ihe front and back portionsv are secured to the webs and .elastic straps ,by suitable stitching 'an elastic strap 63.

The members of one set are indicated at 4I, 42, 43 and those ofthe other set at 4t,- One end of each of the members of each of the sets is secured to a finishing strip or stay means 41 extending from the top to the bottom and centrally of the sides of the garment. 'I'he other ends of the members 4|, 42, 43 are secured to one side of the front portion 48. The other ends of the members 44, 4546 are secured to one side of the back portion 49. The members 4I,(44 are of` like width, but of less width than the members 42, 43, 45, 46. 'I'he members 43, 46 are of greater width thanv the members 42, 45. Otherwise than that as stated the construction of the garment so shown by Figures 8 and 9 will be the same as the garment I0.
With referenceto Figure 10 the garment 5I shown thereby is of the combination type, that is to say it consists of a lace brassire 52 and a corset 53. The latter constitutes the body part of garment 5|. Each side of the garment 5I is formed centrally thereof with'a non-elastic fabric strip or stay means extending from the top edge to the bottom edge of the corset 53. The strips are indicated at 54, 55. One side of the brassire is slitted, as at 55a and such side carries a closure means 56 of known form for the slit. Each side of garment 5I includes an upper part 51 formed by a side of the brassire and a pair of oppositely disposed lower parts in the form of fashioned, spaced Webs 59, 60 of'elastic woven fabric. AThe corset includes a non-elastic front portion and a non-elastic back portion 6|-,
62 respectively. The top edge of said front portion 6I is arranged above the top edge of the back portion 62. The sides 51 of the brassire depend between the side edges of the front portion 6I and the back portion 62 to the top edges of the Webs 59 and strips 54, 55.' Each side of the garment 5I consists of a brassire side part 51, a web 59, a web and a strip 54 or 55. The lower end of each web of each side of garment 5I has secured thereto and transversely thereof One of the elastic straps 63, at each side of the garment 5I, has one end secured to one side of front portion 6I and its other end to the front side of a strip 54 or 55 and the other elastic strap 63 of each side of members.

The front set of a pair is oppositely disposed with respect to the rear set of the pair. The sets of 4one pair are arranged at one side and the sets of the other pair are arranged at the other side of the garment. Each set consists of three elastic 'Ihe front sets align with each other. The rear sets align with each other. The members of each front set are indicated at 61, 68, 69. The members of each rear set are indicated at 10, 1|, 12. Ihe members of the front sets are secured to the inner faces of the upper portions of the webs 59. The members of the rear sets are secured to the inner faces of the upper portions of the webs 69. The ends of the members of the front sets are secured to the sides of the front portion 6| and one side of the strips 54, 55.
The ends of the members of the rear sets are secured to the other side of the strips .54,55 and the sides of the back portion 62. 'I'he members of thepfront sets are arranged in a like manner, that is to say the members 61 of such sets extend forwardly at an upward inclination from the front side of the strips 54, 55- to the sides of the front portion 6|; the members 68 of such sets arehorizontally disposed and extend forwardly from the front side oi" the strips 54, 55 to the sides of the front portion 6|; and the members 69 of such sets extend forwardly at a downward inclination from the front side of the strips 54, 55 to the sides of the front portion 6|. The inclination of the members 69 is greater than the inclination of the members 61. The members 68 are of less length than the members 61, 69. 'I'he members 69 areof greater length than the members 81. The members 61, 68, 69 are ofuniform width and are secured at their lengthwise edges to the webs 59 by zigzag stitching 13. The setting up of the members 61 and 69 at an inclination disposed them diagonally with respect to the webs.
'I'he members ofthe rear sets are arranged in a like manner, that is to say the members 10 of such sets extend rearwardly at an upwardly inclination from the rear side of the strips 54, to the sides of the back portion 62; the members 1| oisuch sets arehorizontally disposed and extend rearwardly from the rear sides of the strips 54, 55 to the sides of back portion s2;
and the members 12 of such sets extend rear- A Wardly at a downward inclination from the rear sides of the strips 54, 55 to the sides of the back portion 62. 'I'he inclination of the members 1|),v 12 isthe same, but oppositely disposed. 'Ihe members 10, 1|, 12 are of uniform width. .The members 10, 12 are of like length and of greater lengththan the members 1|. The members 10,
1|, 12 are secured to the webs 68 by zig-zag.

The garment 16 shown by Figures 11 and 12 is of the'same construction as the garment 5| with the exception that the number of the elastic members of each set employed in connection with the garment 16 is greater than the number 0i' the elastic members of the sets forming parts of the garment 5|. The garment 16 will include a pair of aligned front sets and a pair of aligned rear sets of elastic members. Only one front and one rear set is shown and indicated at 11, 18 respectively. The sets not shown will be arranged on a side of the garment in the same manner as the sets of members which are shown. The front sets and rear sets of elastic members used in connection with the garment 16 will be secured at their ends and lengthwise edges to the body part of the garment 16 in the same manner as the front and rear sets of elastic members 65, 66 respectively are secured to the body'part of garment 5|. Each front set 11 will consists of four elastic members of tape-like form designated 19, 8|), 8|, 82. Each rear set 18 will consist of four elastic members of tapelike form indicated at 83, 84, 85, 86. The member 19 is an upper one, the member 82 a lower one and the members 88, 8| a pair of intermediate ones. The member 83 is an upper one, the member 86 a lower one and the members 84, 85 a pair of. intermediate ones. The member 19 is of less length than the member 82 and of greater length than the member 88. The latter is of greater length than member 89, but of less length than member 19. The member 83 isof greater length than member 84, but of less length than member 19. The member 84-is of sets 11 respectively extend forwardly at an upward inclination, .forwardly substantially horizontally, forwardly at -a downward inclination and forwardly at a downward inclination from the front sides of the strips 81 to the sides of the front portion 88 of the garment. The inclination of the members 19 is greater than the inclination of the members 8| but less than the members 82. .The members 83, 84, v85, 86 of said rear sets respectively extend rearwardly at an upward inclination, rearwardly horizontally, rearwardly at a downwardly inclination and rearwardly at a downwardly inclination from the other sides of the strips 8 5 to the sides of the back portion 89 of the garment. The inclination of the members 83, 85 are substantially the same. The inclination of the member 86 is materially greater than the inclination of the members 83, 85. The setting up of the members 19, 8|, 82, 83, 85, 86 at an inclination disposed them diagonally with respect to the webs.
The member is arranged between the members 19, 8|. The member 8| is arranged between The member 84 is arranged between the members 83, 85. The member 85 is arranged between the members 84, 86. The members 61, 10 extend to the upper ends of the webs 59, 6|) respectively. The members 19,

With reference to thegarment 92 shown by Figures 13, 14, it will be of the same structure as the garment5l, with the exception that each of the front sets 93 of1v elastic members is dif provide for additional control for the abdomen which is obtained by the members 82, 91 respectively. The construction of the garment 92 not only includes the ladvantage as just stated but further provides to control the buttocks into a iiattening position which is obtained by the members 86. ,Y
What I claim is:
1. In a garment for womens wear a body structure of girdle-like form includingv a pair of oppositely disposed elastic webs, non-elastic front and back parts connecting the ends of one web to the ends of the other and oppositely disposed sets of elastic members of tape-like form secured to and extending circumferentially of each of the webs, said members being disposed between and connected to said fron and back pieces. l
2. In a garment for womens wear a body structure of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed elastic webs, non-elastic front and back parts connecting the ends of one web to the ends of the other and'sets of; elastic members of tape-like form secured to the webs, said members being disposed between and connected to said front and back pieces, the members of each of said sets being disposed in spaced relation and extending in different directions, saidsets being arranged in pairs, the members of the sets of each pair of sets `being oppositely disposed, and a stay means secured toeach ofv said webs and arranged between the sets of a `pair of sets. K i 3. In a garment for womens wear a body stmoture of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed' elastic webs, non-elastic front and back parts connecting the ends of one web to the ends of the other and oppositely disposed sets of elastic members of tape-like form secured to and extending circumferentially of each of the webs, said members being disposed between and connected to said front 'and back pieces, and said members arranged against spaced portions of the inner faces of said webs and being secured at their lengthwise'edges to the webs by zig-zag stitching. y I 4. In a garment for womens wear a body structure of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed elastic webs, non-elastic front and back parts connecting the ends of one web to the ends of the other and sets of elastic members .ranged against spaced portions of the inner faces of said webs and beingsecured at their lengthwise edges to the webs by zig-zag stitching, said members being disposed against the upper portion of said webs, each of said sets including a horizontal member and a pair of members disposed at opposite inclinations with respect to each other' and with respect to said horizontal member.
5. In a garment for womens wear a body structure of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed elastic webs, non-elastic front and back parts connecting the ends of one web to the ends of the other and oppositely disposed sets of elastic members of tape-like form secured to and extending circumferentially of each of the webs, said members being disposed between and connected to said front and back pieces, said members being disposed against the inner face of the upper portion of said web, each of saidsets including a horizontal member, an upwardly.
inclined member and a downwardly inclined member.
6. In va garment for womens wear a body structure of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed'fashioned elastic webs, and spaced sets of spaced elastic combined fashioning and resistance increasing members secured to one of the faces of said webs,v said body including a pair of non-elastic front and back partsconnecting the ends of one lwebto the ends of the other web and to which said members are connected, and said body including concealed stay meanscarried by said webs, intermediate the ends of the latter and to which said members are connected.
7. In a garment for womens wear a body structure of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed fashioned elastic webs,' and spaced sets of spaced elastic combined fashioning and resistance increasing members secured to the inner faces of said Webs, said body including a pair ofnon-elastic front and back parts connecting the ends of one web to theends of the other web and to which said members are connected, said lbody including 4concealed stay means carried by said webs, intermediate the ends of the latter and tol which said members positely disposed fashioned elastic Webs, and
spaced sets of spaced elastic combined iashioning and resistance increasing members secured to the'lnner faces of said webs, said body including a pair of non-elastic front and back `parts "connecting the ends of one web to the ends of the other web'and to which said members are connected,v said body including concealed stay means carried by said webs, intermediate the ends of the latter and to which said members are connected, and said body including upper and lower elastic straps secured to the lengthwise edges of said webs and having their ends secured to said front and back pieces, each of said members .being of like form, and zig-zag stitching for securing the lengthwise edges'of said members to said webs.
9. In a garmentl for womens wear, a body structure of girdle-like form including a pair of oppositely disposed fashioned elastic webs, each having its end terminal portions extended inwardly with respect to its central portion, a stay means disposed at the transverse center of the upper portion of each web, a non-elastic front part interposed between, secured to and for connecting the front ends of the webs together, a non-elastic split back part interposed between, secured to and for connecting the rear ends of the webs together, spaced elastic combined fashioning and resistance increasing means carried by the upper portions of the webs and extending from said stay means to the sides of said front and back parts.
10. In a body conning garment, a body structure for encompassing the wearer and having elastic sides, two pairs of sets of elastic members, each pair of sets being secured to one of the elastic sides of said structure above the lower end of the latter, the sets of each pair extending in opposite directions across a side of said structure, certain of the elastic members of eachset being oppositely inclined, said structure including a front portion and a back portion, the front ends of one of the sets of each pair of sets being secured to the sides of said front portion, and the rear ends of the other set of each of said parts of sets being secured to the sides of said back portion.
11. In a foundation type garment having a. front, a back, and a pair of sides, and two pairs of oppositely disposed sets of elastic strips, each set including horizontally and diagonally disposed elastic strips, said pairs of sets of strips being secured directly to said elastic sides at points spaced from the top and bottom of said sides, and. exerting a control on the stretch of said sides within predetermined areas of the garment, one end of a set of strips of each pair of sets of strips being connected to the side edges of the front and one end of the other set of strips of each pair of sets of strips being connected to the back of the garment.
